Sandro Rosell: “I'm very proud”

The FC Barcelona president says he's "very proud of the players, of all the winners and of Barça" and he highlights Messi's personality as "enchanting"

Zubizarreta: "The spontaneous applause was the world acknowledging Messi"

Sandro Rosell and Andoni Zubizarreta followed the 2012 FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala very closely. The FC Barcelona president said that he’s “very proud of the players, of all of our winners and of Barça. I am also very proud of the work that people have done over the last 30 years, when La Masia was created. We are reaping the rewards I want to thank everyone for their hard work.” He added: “I also believe that this is an acknowledgment of our model. The life of a footballer isn’t easy and today we witnessed how that effort and hard work by athletes was recognised. It was the complete package, not only for Messi. This guarantees the idea of the game and the continuity of the Club.”

Messi, number 1

When asked about Messi, Rosell was very clear: “Messi is marvelous when he plays, his four FIFA Ballons d’Or prove that. Additionally, he’s a fantastic and enchanting person. The truth is that we’re lucky to have him with us.” The Barça president believes that Messi just might win the award next year as well.

For Zubizarreta the biggest honour for Messi was the long standing ovation he received after winning the award: “The unanimous standing ovation speaks for itself. This spontaneous applause was the world acknowledging Messi.”

Grateful for Guardiola’s presence

Lastly, the FC Barcelona president also thanked Guardiola for coming to the Gala: “He showed his greatness and bravery. He showed up even though the rumour was that Del Bosque was going to win. I want to thank Pep and congratulate Del Bosque.”

A little go at mourinho there :p

we can be proud of our players that there is no envy at the moment when looking at leo... i hope it will stay like this.. because if iniesta and xavi think they arent treated right and it doesnt matter how good they play they can not win the ballon dor it could have a huge impact on the team... although we might see that those player wont pass the ball all the time to messi like they do now but instead searching for the own shot on goal

Barcelona players are defined by their selfless attitudes and passion for the team. None more than Iniesta, Xavi, Puyol so we won't have this problem. Everyone including Messi knows our success has been a team effort. All links in the chain are solid. We all know what happens to players who become "me" players (Ibra, Figo etc)

Visca Barça! :barca scarf:

Arriving too late to the party. So after all Beckham didn't hand out the Ballon d'Or. No wonder Messi won. :pep:

I think it's annoying how many people are focusing on the guy's suit. Women can wear the most outrageous dresses at awards show and everyone loves it. Messi wears an eye-catching suit and everyone hates it. Double standards, anyone?

Anyway, congratulations, Lionel. You have truly carved your name into the stone tablets of history. :messi:

FC Barcelona, The club with ten Ballons d’Or

Following Leo Messi’s fourth Ballon d’Or, Barça players have now won the prestigious honour a record ten times

Juventus and AC Milan, are second with eight winners each

Leo Messi has won his fourth Ballon d’Or and it’s likely that this was not his last. And when Messi wins, Barça win too. From today, Barça are able to boast an all-time record of having won ten different editions of the awards. They are followed by AC Milan and Juventus, who have eight each. Messi’s reign in the football kingdom has also extended the Barça legend.

Suárez first

Galician Luis Suárez was the first FCB winner of the Ballon d’Or in 1960. The next was Johan Cruyff on two occasions (1973 and 1974) and in 1994 it was Hristo Stoichkov who added another. Five years later, in 1999, Rivaldo made it five and in 2005 Ronaldinho was yet another Barcelona player to be named the best in the world.

Messi sets record

Messi scored his first goals for Barça in 2004 against Albacete, and things have just got better and better ever since. First under Frank Rijkaard and then under Pep Guardiola, Leo Messi developed into one of the most extraordinary footballers to have ever graced the game, and was recognised with his first Ballon d’Or in 2009. He has gone on to win four in a row, something no man has ever achieved before, and at the same time has made Barça the club with the all time record for producing winners of the award.

I think that Cannavaro Balon d'Or 2006 should be counted for Juventus and not for Real Madrid.
