I'm just saying that it doesn't necessarily always say anything about a player's ability and quality.

Valverde's always dropped players who probably deserved to play more on merit to play his starters, who have failed us multiple times when it's mattered the most.

But look.
In the last season, forum was killing me and EV's defenders due to these players being benched:
1. Dumbele
2. Malcom
3. Arthur
4. Alena
5. Semedo

Fast forward one year:
1. Dembele is Dumbele. Maybe EV was right all the time and has seen things way before our fans?
2. Malcom. He has probably found his level in Russia. Was EV wrong? Probably not.
3. Alena? Turning out to be a Granada level of a player. EV was not wrong.
4. Semedo? Absolutely horrible in attack. You can't blame EV. Except for playing Roberto when we need to defend.
5. Arthur? Imo, let's wait for one more year and maybe things will get clearer why he was subbed all the time against parked buses (which we face the most often).

Mou made some mistakes.
But for now, sadly for our fans, it seems that EV is going for a 100% record in judging and benching players.

Except maybe Coutinho as a LW.
But since the other option was Dumbele, who can blame him?
He needed to pick the less horrible player.

Bbz, Dembele simply put in better performances for Barca than Coutinho did in 18/19. Cou was atrocious, whereas Dembele had flashes of brilliance and won us several games. Dembele was also the starter when he wasn’t injured or rusty after an injury.

That means that players will be guided by their default instincts.
That means: Busi and Arthur are useless in the attacking third without guidance.

You are in denial man. Busi and Rakitic are proven failures in the Champions League. They have proven they can't form a competitive midfield because they had the chance to do it, and failed big time. Repeatedly. In embarrassing fashion.

The first step is make sure you don't repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Rakitic and Busi together is done. Can't happen again consistently. You build from that, and you try to find the right balance, keeping in mind that Busi - Rakitic is a proven bad combination.

Arthur and De Jong are the future. They need to get the chance to form a partnership, and help our midfield to cope with high pressing teams, instead of completely collapsing as it happened time and time again with Busi and Rakitic running things.

The midfield we form in these 4-5 months of football until CL knockouts come kicking in, is the midfield that will be again put up to test vs the likes of City, Liverpool, Juventus, Bayern, PSG etc. You really want that to be Busi - Rakitic? Is Groundhog Day your favorite film by any chance?

Yes, the Raki-Busi duo is done. They are too similar. Rakitic is a DM these days anyway. A DM that can’t play with his back towards goal. Offers little bar an odd diagonal ball or a mid range shot. His energy and willingness to put in a defensive shift are gone, his reluctance and cowardice to dictate the play make him a liability against pressing teams. His ability to deliver pinpoint accurate long passes is the only world class attribute left in him. Due to this, he is still a good option against defensive teams who won’t press him.

However, Frenkie is a much more superior DM. A Frenkie-Arthur-Roberto midfield seems like the best combination for me so far. But we should try out almost every midfielder together with these two, even Coutinho. Arthur and Frenkie MUST play.
