For someone who speaks a lot about footballers' looks this shouldn't come as a surprise. James was considered more marketable. Lucas Silva also won some kind of beauty contest or whatever but proved to be trash. Take this with a pinch or a fistful of salt
Di Maria was incredible in the 2014 CL win. 8 years later he's clutch in a WC final. I mean it's not Messi in terms of longevity (and as big impact) with the CL win 2009 to WC 2022 (13 years). Still shows that ADM been going strong even after leaving Madrid.

Find it hard to believe coz people like Modric and Benzema were Madrid star players for long and they're hardly good looking ...........
ADM is great and turns up on occasions but I think over an entire season he'll have inconsistent moments in general unlike truly elite players like Messi, Ronaldo, Lewandowski, etc who keep performing all season long.

They decided to "upgrade" on Di Maria with James Rodriguez and failed. Florentino definitely saw him as way more marketable and probably a way in for his personal business in Colombia which coincidentally got him a few contracts there for his construction company.

James was the best player in the World Cup and has been living off that campaign ever since.
He's so soft. Zero grit. No wonder it shows on his effeminate appearance. Overrated in terms of Football and looks. Period.
It's obviously not based on looks. ADM demanded a lot of money to renew, at the same time there was this left footed young good looking Colombian doing incredible things in World Cup. There was a market opportunity to upgrade in terms of quality/potential, marketability, age and for less money (think James earned less than ADM demanded). Madrid also had a buyer willing to pay a lot of money, same amount they paid for James.
