Coutinho is a Number 10 too and he was our best player when he was with us.
Players like KDB and especially Bruno are pure number 10s but still very relevant. KDB reinvented himself as an attacking 8 in Pep's system.
It's all about reinventing yourself and tweaking your game based on circumstances. A great player manages to find a way. It's tough but not impossible.
Will give you an anecdote about James. He came to Everton under Ancelotti and got off to a flying start. Apparently, started complaining about the city and weather. What followed was his form nosediving. Also had issues with the weather in Munich and German people not being friendly enough IIRC.
In a nutshell, he's way too soft and his character isn't strong enough to survive and adapt. Another pampered modern Footballer who just wants it way too easy. Wrong attitude.

Rakitic and Perisic are 2 players who are very underrated imo.

Perisic quality is recognized by people me thinks. Lot of people had him in fantasy last season.

Nah. Perisic is underrated. They had him in Fantasy teams coz they saw he was considered a defender in FPL but actually he's a winger with a good potential of G/A in Conte's famous Wing Back system. That's all.
Kovacic underrated? Man hasn't done anything of note during his whole career.

There's a trend. Normally superstars from countries other than Brazil, Argentina, Spain, France, England, Italy get underrated.
Just the usual media bias. The country's media needs to have mainstream influence for global publicity. Being part of a country with a strong NT helps in winning International silverware.
Slavic/Balkan/East European athletes get underrated and overlooked all the time. In tennis, Djokovic is still fighting the politics after winning a Million Grand Slams. Says it all really.
If it was Roberto Lewandez, this forum would endlessly twerk for him.
