Nelson Semedo

Seems like Cristóvão is onto something when he said he was to timid in the attack last season.

The game yesterday showed just how much he's willing to push the issue and that's what we want to see more on a consistent basis.

Looking more and more like the Benfica Semedo so far during preseason.

If he keeps this up we have a strong contender for the Breakout player of the season.

Not really, he literally always played like this, especially his first barca games were like this, he was bombing forward and looked like the most dangerous RB in the world, but EV punished him for that by completely benching him, can see this happening again.

I thought he was fantastic last season and he impressed me right from the start until EV decides to bench him completely after one average game. That's when he thought he needed to dribble the same way like Roberto and it affected his decision making on whether to go forward. There came another time where EV decides to all of a sudden start him against Girona where he got injured, after that starting him for 3 straight games until the Roma game then benched him for another 2 games again. It's just so inconsistent, deciding to abstain him from games and then all of a sudden decide to put him in big games, obviously it throws him off and could see it really disrupted his momentum.

When u see Semedo completely focused, he's really good but every player has their bad games even Messi does or Pique or Umtit during that Roma game. Cant be completely benched and punished for 2-3 straight games and even reduced to playing only Copa games. I dont see Pique ever benched despite fcking up or being injured. This is when EV has huge problems when handling new players, while the old players are okay with mistakes. Partly why many of them couldnt gel with the first team and had to be stuck with old and slow players, who were also burnt out in the Liga. Zero intensity in the CL.

Expecting to see huge rotations and a more fresh lineup from EV. Semedo needs to be RB while Roberto in midfield. Decision had to be made whether Arthur or Rakitic suits better in the team.

Valverde is a pussy. Always taking the safe option.

Not being selected for WC turned out to be a wake up call for him. I'm not saying he was bad earlier, but I think it hit him hard, in a good way. He looks focussed, confident, fit and bold.

I've always said, technically & physically this guy has everything to be a Barca RB, the only problem is his mental strength.

Dude's just really shy offensively. It costs him effort to take on a man or do something offensively brilliant. At least I see he is trying lately.

True. As i said all season long. Its just a confidence thing and this was to a big part Valverdes fault imo.
Lets hope both handle the situation better.

Need to have patience too. Takes time to adapt to a team like Barca too.

Semedo is a very good player whose main strengths are on the offensive side of the game. He's starting to open up which is great to see. Taking on players and using his pace to make great runs. Also kudos to Rafinha, Arthur and Roberto for seeing his runs while our other players sometimes ignored him last season.

This will be his breakthrough season.

Made better runs forward in past couple games and got into final third more often.

Still doesnt look like creating much when gets there and needs to improve massively on that from last season or Roberto will be the starting RB again would think.

EV gave him plenty of chances last season. He needs to start showing a lot more and consistently.

He’s improved.
More adventurous going forward and not afraid to take on players either.
Will be a beast on that right side with Malcolm/Dembele this season.
Hopefully we don’t see Sergi at RB too much this season.

Okay, here is where he stands before this season

strong points:

- 1 vs 1 defending
- strenght
- speed
- dribbling
- stamina
- short passes

average areas:
- overall passing diversity
- positional awareness in defense

areas to clearly improve
- final pass
- shooting

Even if he has more offensive presence, he still needs a better delivery from wide positions.
