Nelson Semedo

Well if Semedo isn't given regular playing time with our best XI how do u expect him to establish an understanding with them?

He played 39 matches for Barca till now.
2200-2300 minutes.
That's not garbage minutes.
25 full matches x 90 minutes.

EV didn't rotate too much last season, right?
So, if Semedo played 36 matches last season, that means that in majority of matches he played with the best 11, right?

1. He plays horribly in attack
2. And has 0 assists for Barca, at least in La liga and a Cl, since GasGas said that he had one assist in copa

Even if you give lots of matches and faith to this guy, how much can he improve?
He had only 1 senior season in career before Barca.
Maybe he was a one season wonder.
Maybe Portuguese league is poor.
Maybe he lacks some basics since he is playing serious football for only 2 years.

Ev doesn't trust him.
Nt coach doesn't trust him.
Teammates don't trust him at all and yet they see him every day on a training grounds (the same is with Valverde).

That is too much "smoke" and question marks around him.

Ppl said the same thing about Dembele last season "Valverde sees him in training. He must suck". So that excuse doesn't hold any water now (and never did). Just see today Semedo being the first one to be sacrificed because Valverde can't bench his bestie Roberto.

Whoever plays RB is hamstrung in an attacking sense by Messi's reluctance to stick to his position. (undrestandable when our mid play like today.) That being said Semedo needs to be braver in possession, and needs to earn his teammates trust. How he's supposed to do that when Valverde makes him scapegoat every chance he gets however is the conundrum.

Truth is somewhere in the middle. It's true he doesn't get a lot of chances and that he's punished after every bad game while Roberto gets away with his stinker games, but he's doesn't seem to have the mentality of making it at a club like Barcelona. He seems soft imo. Roberto is similar.

He can potentially be one of the best right backs in the game but he needs a manager who would develop him. Valverde is the opposite of that. He seems to not care one bit about developing players.

What the.... Which other clubs throw out a talented player after giving him garbage minutes with a MF of Rafinha and Roberto while making a bang average player like Roberto an undisputed starter?

Semedo being talented is just an opinion, not a fact. So far he has showed nothing to make me say that he could be one of the best right backs in the world.

Valverde is just an asshole. Doesn't give players confidence. Chops and changes. The reason our board hired Valverde was to develop young players. He's doing exactly the opposite. Fuck Valverde.

Yea, not so much. A lot of managers have Valverde's profile. So the risk of appointing another Valverde is very big. It's why you really need to be careful who you bring to manage this team. There are a lot of other Valverdes out there.

He was a beast with Benfica, very adventurous and forward thinking. Think the management has damaged that.

I remember raki who watches portuguese league regularly saying he was never good enough and he was a bad deal. So I am not sure if he was really a beast in Benfica
Also he played only 1 full season there really, not the biggest sample size never mind portugal isn't really that good of a league

You have to be mentally tough to succeed in professional sports, if what you say is true then maybe he isn't cut out for barça.

We can't fault the manager for not grooming young players properly. They have to groom themselves. So what is the point of having the manager then?

Roberto has been better than Semedo in the final third whether you like it or not.

First of all the attacking ability of Roberto is grossly overhyped.

Secondly he plays much more especially with the first XI so he has more understanding with the team

Thirdly a FB has to be able to defend first. Roberto's negatives of getting shat on by any half decent attacker far outweigh any minor attacking benefits he brings

At barça its setting the team in a position to win with good/attractive/attacking football.

Where has this good attacking football been for the past year? So if Valverde is not doing that how can his team selection and treatment of young players be defended?

Semedo played 36 matches last season, 2494 minutes, averaging close to 70 minutes per match. For a new signing, that's no garbage time. Yet, never impressed. Not to mention that his 'defensive abilities' are grossly overrated. He's got pace so often makes up for his mistakes.
