Nelson Semedo

It seems that we are paying the release clause of Griezmann anyway, if by giving them Semedo we pay less, maybe it could be a good deal. Depending on how much they value Semedo of course.

Highly doubt we are going to buy an RB this summer even if Semedo leaves.

The money is going to go towards Griezmann, an LB, De Ligt? and possibly someone like Rodrigo and the club will promote Wague. There's also Emerson but he's not ready either and plus he would take up a Non-EU slot as well.

Feels like a repeat of 16/17 transfer window except in this case Wague is an actual real RB backing up Roberto instead of Vidal.

Historically, Barca was always oriented towards expensive attackers and midfielders.
Because guys like Romario, R9, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Etoo, Messi are guys who brought as fame, glory and titles.

Majority of our transfer windows during the last 25 years were always aimed towards buying expensive attackers (and midfielders).
We were almost never spending big in defense.
We were always ready to splash 100M for an attacker and buy a reserve RB for 2 or 5M or have some La Masia guy as a sub.

Regarding Semedo, imo, it seems that we will be getting De Jong for 75M, Griezmann for 120M and probably De Ligt for 85M.
De Jong and Griezmann alone will cost 200M with insane wages.
So, the club opted to risk with a RB position and Roberto, who was a 1st choice Rb will remain the 1st choice and the 2nd choice will be a kid Wague or some new cheap LB-RB guy.

If we will sign De Ligt, we will need to sell a few players to get some money for transfer fees and to lower our wage bill.

And if we are considering more players besides 75M Frenkie, 120M Griezz, 85M De Ligt (like a LB or a CF), well, a lot of players will need to go.
Semedo, probably Coutinho, maybe Rakitic, Malcom, Gomes, Denis, Samper.
Rafinha, who will buy him?
Samper will go for free.
Denis, I don't believe that anyone will pay more than 10M for him.
Rakitic, will anyone be willing to pay his wages?
Gomes, you never know with him and his transfers.
Malcom, Who on Earth will pay 40M for him after this season at Barca?

The only "sure" options to get money are: Coutinho and basically no one else.
So, if someone is offering 40 or 50M for Semedo, well, the club has to accept it, since probably NO OTHER PLAYER except Coutinho will bring such a large amount this summer.
And especially if a player wants to leave.

We'll survive in La Liga without Semedo.
In a CL: well, we probably won't win it either way...

Samper? He had his contract terminated a couple of months ago.

Come on man..why are you so negative..Pique-Roberto is so assuring in defence compared to the "assist less" Semedo (as per many on this forum) :D

I really don't think we can truly base our opinion on young players under Valverde's management who prefer to evaluate players based on seniority and not merit. Think of it as Valverde represent the Trade Union, while managers like Klopp or Pep represent an organization that emphasizes on merit that fosters a culture of healthy competition and productivity.

Semedo has the potential to be very good under any decent manager.

:lol: No offense, but your whole thread is why we are in this predicament :lol::lol:

Well, Barcelona was good while it lasted... see you in a few years when this corrupt, rotten board and they puppet of a coach are gone.

this is down to Messi and his lack of workrate/support down the right. kinda hard to not be passback merchant when we don't actually have a right winger ahead of the RB

Oh now it's Messi's fault  Roberto played with Messi and still capable to move forward

I prefer Semedo over Sergi at RB but i also wouldn't be opposed replacing him with another RB. Semedo has to share minutes with Sergi and it's a bit difficult for the RB anyway but i also don't think he is a special player that Barca can't afford to lose. He is fast and has decent technical skills, but that's about it. Yeah Messi doesn't play RW, Valverde etc but i think a world class offensive RB should have more impact no matter the circumstances.

That being said i would only let him go if a replacement is signed that could improve the team there, not if it would just cement Sergis starting spot and promote Wague to the bench where Valverde won't use him.

I agree..Anyone wouldve spotted Roberto as RB not working in the UCL (esp Semis) and countless other times. Yet Mr. Safe despite getting owned for much of the home leg and being up only thanks to Messi and dumb luck, plays Roberto again. We look much more reassuring in defense in comparison with Semedo and like classic Valverde-Barto era, get rid of the good younger options and keep the oldies :bartomeu:.. Yet people keep harping about his lack of assists as if Eric Abidal a LB before Alba came along, was an assist machine. Pep also went with one offensive minded full back in Dani Alves but with other 3 defensive. Yet now we play with 3 of them suspect (Alba, Roberto and Pique to some extent who lets face it is not a leader of the defense at all and can barely manage himself)!!
