I think everyone was screaming at their monitors/TVs for Valverde to sub him off but it didn't happen.

Yeah we were shit but I felt at least 95% of our problems came from him. the whole right side was like an open highway. He's 27 turning 28 in a week or so, and it's pretty much accepted he won't get any better defensively.

He's a hard worker especially in training but no matter how hard he trains he lacks the defensive instincts and to be fair he's a Winger who first experienced playing as a RB under Emery and he had a decent season there. which was the reason we bought him in the first place. at best he should be used as backup in the RB and wing positions here and that's it.

Semedo isn't perfect in the defensive side but he has shown in at Benfica and in the CL last season and preseason here and there when he played he's much better at defending than Vidal and he has the instincts as well.

It was always clear in preseason how bad Vidal was. Even Chapecoense players were doing him in. Almost every performance he'll show an inability to make more than 30% or so successful tackles and either not defend or not be able to. In the friendly Clasico he was getting fucked left and right. Semedo was miles better in that game that both of them played and looked much more secure defensively, nor does he wander so aimlessly out of position for no reason. Vidal was literally playing on the left for some parts of the game!! Other times he'd drift to the middle or way up, even when RM had the ball he'd move AWAY from the RB spot.

I'm almost certain Semedo is not worse. He never showed that level of being an absolute retard on a consistent basis the way Vidal does, and looks to be a very talented player. EV will keep being punished badly until Vidal stops playing.

Here's some videos of his individual performances against some pretty strong teams. Portuguese league might not be the greatest quality but Benfica still has to play against the likes of Porto and Sporting every season.

Videos don't always tell the story but it's hard to convince me going by those videos thant he cannot be any worse than Vidal.

Of course Vidal will start over him, what is so hard to understand, hes been with the team 2 years, where as Semedo just came here, he has better chemistry and everything, did someone really expect Valverde to put a new guy in Clasico?

Even if Vidal should've started, there's no excuse for not subbing him out at the half. Valverde fucked up.

This guy isn't a world class player but he has huge potential and could become one in the future. FFS he was the best option in the market for RBs and fans from Bayern and United were calling for him to be signed to their clubs.

Again, this is shocking stuff from Valverde not playing our only actual RB in pre-season.
