Neymar Jr. - v5

Surprised you would praise him here like that.
For Neycriticasters this would be an easy game to criticize him on.

Well he scored against a tough rival. If he were to nail couple of other chances he had...but lets not cherry pick. This is good.
Scored and was messing VR's defends constantly.

If only...once again, if only he got the finishing skills, the sky d be the limit! His decision making can be improved over time but he lacks somewhat the coldness in front of goal!

Should have scored a hattrick today. Disappointing yet again in terms of finishing skills.

But holy moly can he dribble and trick his opponents. Great flair and very entertaining to look at, for me.

Dribbling down the wing, he's simply unmatched in football. The best in the world 1v1 on the sidelines. There's criticism to be dished out about other aspects of his play, even today. However he truly is a magician and the best LW in football bar none.

He wasn't that good in 1st half, good to hear he stepped it up.

I haven't watched 2nd half yet. But frustrating as hell to see him take Iniesta (and others) out of the game when he does his cut-in runs, making them bystanders. All he has to do is dish it off to Iniesta and continue his run, then Iniesta can work his magic with an attacking run or pass. Neymar's run is heavily marked, he's drawing defenders, but he's wasting the opportunity his run creates. Yes, occasionally he survives the run and finds a target, but the left side attack could be so much more productive if he included Iniesta and other open players, to take advantage of the space he creates.

His dribbling ability is unmatched but he's not a smart dribbler and he tends to keep the ball for too long looking for a foul or dribbling excessively which gives the other team time to organize themselves. Other times he just keeps the ball when a pass would be a much better option.

his dribbling ability would be absolutely devastating in a counter attacking setup or in a sort of setup like the one we had in 10/11 where the midfielders and other forwards had great fluidity and movement. in a relatively static "possession" system, which admittedly he is guilty of contributing to with holding the ball too long, his abilities are largely squandered.

Yup. Lucho doesn't see it that way though.

Lol that's just ignorant. Every winger in the world cuts inside. Sterling today was running from leftside to midfield and passing to the right back, Hazard does it always. Sometimes you dribble someone while doing it, most of the time you dont. Its just a movement to free up the flank for the left back. Again, EVERY winger does this, MULTIPLE times a match. I'm talking about carrying the ball from left flank to midfield in a straight line and passing the ball from there to rakitic or sergi.

The problem is, BerkeleyBerney only started to analyse a winger's function in football when Neymar came in. He thinks only Neymar runs to the middle lol. Every guy who uses the right foot as a leftwinger does that.
