Neymar Jr. - v5

Bojan, I've criticized Neymar a lot ever since he joined and he's been pretty terrible and yes some people here are deluded fanboys, but you need to chill. Some people are better banned than responded to. I've given a lot of flak myself to some posters so i'm definitely not taking the holier-than-thou attitude, but if a meanie like me is also concerned maybe there is something to it. Just saying.

May be we should sell the guy to rid ourselves of this division

Guy has very high potential, very high but chooses to deploy very little of it

He was supposed to be performing like this on his first season not fourth

Right now he was supposed to be flying with rainbow assists, overhead scorpion kick goals every match.
He has the ability but he's not interested

I believe he can be our next leader, he's gifted enough
But if he doesn't want to, I wouldn't mind if he left and a replacement is brought (Carrasco)

Another one of his signature performances recently. Many bad moves and many good game changing moves. Not much talk of his good ones here though as usual. His consistency sucks but oh well better to be good and bad than be bad and bad.

Rewatching yesterdays game and honestly despite all of his sloppiness with the ball and poor decision making at times he created quite a few chances and also had a great assist to Messi definitely not a bad performance.

Did not watch game but checked out Whoscored and they rank him second best after Messi in this game. He seems to have problems right now with his finishing, but has many valuable Assists. He will grow into his role at Barça, I am quite confident.

Terrible today
He also has a very narrow passing range.
Can only pass to Messi

Sell and buy Carrasco

Here's another one of my brilliant ideas ;) -->
FiFa could add a just-4-fun no-point swap system where each player during a season plays 5 matches in another team drawn by lottery. This way, fans would see how players can perform in different teams on an ad-hoc basis. Kinda like Zizou/Ronaldo & Friends but with just 2 new players (1 per side). Incentive wise, we could have a special prize for the one who accumulates the most points (awarded by a shared weighted vote system: fans/coaches/players/journalists). It's far out but it would super entertaining!!! ... I think. Idea came 2 just now :surfing:

ps. and in addition, there could also be an All-Star annual game like in Baseball, Basketb. etc... Yeah baby!

ok rewatched it in the cool light of day.
It’s not like he didn't try but like Hamzah noted, he really looked kinda depressed and wasn't his usual perky self...

He had some good dashes, bringing the ball to striking distance and made a few key passes that could've been converted. Biggest negative last night for me is not even the failed tricks [though it was one of his worst displays ever lol] – I’m a fan so I'm cool with that – and when they work, they’re just wow.

What I noticed the most was his almost obsession with passing to Messi. Crazy stuff, 80% of the time, it's as if he ignored his other m8s
and the thing is, he doesn’t have to. Messi can at any point switch it on by himself.

and the other thing is, last night, Ney didn’t take a single shot at goal. That’s ZERO attempt until the last minute botched touch.

Case in point _ vid. times (not game):

01:49 Both Ney and Pistolero in front of the 2 defenders, plenty of space upfront. Why attempt to control the ball and let the defenders catch up??? Just nudge the ball forward and let Suarez shoot or assist you. Instant goal 9 times out of 10.
03:34 ok this one is not the worse. He passes to Leo who’s still in a scorable position (despite the 3 defenders) but a smarter play would’ve been edit: to Suarez unmarked in front of the net. Or the cocky Santos neyney would’ve naturally dribbled past the defender for a direct shot or short pass to Suarez or Bob if not offside.
42:47 Assist worked but was the lowest % and riskiest play 
Santos Ney would’ve glided past No. 23 and taken the shot [even clearer at 42.55] or simple pass to open Denis S. / Raki / Luisito. No defenders for the 2 Suarez and just one for Raki. Instead, Ney tracks back and holds for Messi who needs to pull an amazing curve from the edge of the pen. Box through 3 defenders.
Luisito who was completely open on the right gets no love lol
05:02 Nice Mustache hehe
05:21 Valliant attempt. Pass to Messi was the best play on that one. Raki should’ve made a short pass to open Suarez in front of the net.
06:20 Had to wait till Suarez is onside. Ok pass the ball through the gap between the two defenders. Luisito has all the space in front of him to accelerate and beat the goalkeeper / or pass to Messi.
06.30 Santos Ney beats the defender and goes for goal. Again he goes for Messi who almost pulls off Puskas goal.
06.55 Santos Ney tries nutmeg and goes for goal or gets fouled for penalty. Instead he passes to unmarked Messi. This one was actually a smart paly but just mentioning it to illustrate the point that he made zero attempt at goal…
07.09 Nice pass from Leo. 5 Defenders lined up on penalty box line, pass to Suarez was a groovy play.
07.32 Nice chip to Leo. Good play.
07.38 Beat the defender and go for goal dammit! You can do it!!! But still smart pass to Leo who tries a one-two. Almost worked!
07:53 Lol or take the short-cut to Horatio’s post up above
08:04 aaaarghh!!! The OPEN SPACE. That couldn’t been NeySain Bolt time. So close but 23 did well here.
08.09 pass to Rafi would’ve been better…
08.30 Sigh. Touch was too heavy and goalkeeper anticipated well.

So there it is. Many say Ney is too selfish but I actually think he should go back to his cocky ol’ ways. Last night, it’s as though he made a promise to himself not to shine. That’s why my immediate impression was that he was playing with low confidence. Specially in contrast to Umtiti who was flowing with total Alpha freedom.

Think he'll bounce back in the next 2 Brazil games

Reiterates what I have been saying along.

His passing option is only messi.

May be other players should start wearing Messi masks

No way was he 'decent' he was god awful. It's important to be critical of him, especially with the investment we are making on him. He isn't just some young kid trying to get a starting position at Barca, he's 'supposed' to be a world class player.

1) He get's the ball on the wing, has an option to make a simple pass but instead tries to run past the defender and run towards the box and more defenders move in on him. As soon as he realizes he is fucked he tries to pass the ball in a difficult scenario and usually fucks up the pass and turns over possession.

2) He receives the ball on the wing, makes a lateral run which he skips a few challenges but overall a pointless play that results in nothing and covers no ground going forward.

3) He receives the ball on the wing, tries some stupid showboating stepover tricks to beat the defender, hilariously fails, turns over possession, and has everyone laughing at him.

Then the 1 vs 1 miss was the icing on the cake.

He's good on the counter when he can make a run and no one is in front of him to stop him. It's not much to gloat about as any competent, high paced winger should be able to do the same, especially when they have Messi feeding them for the counter.

He should do what he did in treble season which was make clever runs in behind and finish. It gave the back four something to worry about and helped our midfield.

This guy is useless in build up play and ruins more than he helps, leave that to the midfield and messi and stay high up the pitch

14-15 neymar was clutch and the spearhead of the trident, but 90% of his touches still happened in the same areas they do know and ney's overall gameplay, goals aside, was not any better.

Only in the end of 2015 did neymar truly perform overall.

Neymar and ter Stegen are two players I backed a lot when they were unfairly criticised, but they are now annoying the heck out of me.

No excuses, they need to do better and so does 80% of the team. It's just not good enough.

And the same applies to Lucho. The defenders are touching the ball a lot more than our midfielders.

In our treble season and most of last season, it was the midfielders. That's one of the biggest issues we're having by far there.
