Neymar

DonAK

President of FC Barcelona
he’s 32 what twilight lmao

32 years old with a tonne of injuries the last five or so years.

Physically he might as well be 38.

Most footballers historically decline around this age anyway, and the ones that keep playing on until their mid to late 30s usually haven't sustained the amount of serious injuries Neymar has.

Journalist: Which player would you like to be Argentine?
𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝘀: Neymar.

Journalist: The most talented player you've faced?
🇦🇷𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝘀: Neymar.

Journalist: A footballer you'd like to have on your team, and who would you nationalize to play for your national team?
🇦🇷𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶á𝗻 Á𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘇: Neymar, both times.

Journalist: A player you'd like to coach in Argentina?
🇦🇷𝗟𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗶: Neymar.

Journalist: Which opponent has been the hardest to face?
🇦🇷𝗥𝗼𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗼 𝗗𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹: Neymar, in the Copa América final.

Journalist: The toughest rival you've faced?
🇦🇷𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁í𝗻𝗲𝘇: Neymar. In the Copa América final, his last 25 minutes were something else. Our midfield just tried to kick him, push him, do anything to stop him. They couldn't.

The Argentine national team is enjoying its most glorious days after winning two Copa Américas, a Finalissima, and a World Cup, but its players haven’t forgotten and show absolute respect for Neymar 🇧🇷

What would have happened if the Brazilian star had been better surrounded?

Came across this from a decade ago - Neymar not knowing who Gheorge Hagi is

Fair enough Neymar is ten years younger than me and couldn't watch the 1994 World Cup live (Hagi's biggest worldwide exposure) like I did, as he was only two, but anyone with the remotest interest in football history and with access to Youtube will have heard of him.

So many plastics in that thread saying they have never heard of Hagi either, saying they only know him cos of FIFA and - even worse - calling Hagi an 'obscure' player and saying that you'd think of hundreds of players before him.

I don't think it is an excuse either as I knew plenty of past players from even the 40s when I was a teenager. People should really look into the history of the game and have a little knowledge of it to consider themselves proper football fans. All you need to do is delve into the history of the World Cup - the biggest tournament on Earth - and not even far back, but the 90s, and you know Hagi.

Fits right in with my opinion of r/soccer. Majority plastic Americans with zero knowledge of football whatsoever.

Think Ney belongs to the guys who rather likes to play than to watch as every guy who looks a bit football should know Hagi. But dont blame him, know many guys who have no clue about football teams/player but can play very well.

I don't necessarily mean Neymar. I know loads of great pro players have zero clue about the history of the game.

I am more referring to fans who think they are hardcore football men yet are making excuses about not knowing a famous player like Hagi. Fans don't have Neymar's excuse of dedicating his life to playing the game professionally.

Ah ok yeah thats also tru, at my work i have some 'hardcore' football fans who dont even know the best matches of this era, i mean if i would say Barca vs Manu 09, Real vs Bayern 2012, Barca vs Psg 6-1 - they wouldnt even know that these games happened 🤣

They're not actual 'hardcore' football fans then. They follow football like I follow tennis. They probably have a very rudimentary, superifical knowledge of the game's history and tactics.

Not saying I am David Goldblatt either, but I like to think I have researched more than the average bear.

My posts in here seem a bit like gatekeeping - I am not saying you can't be a football fan if you don't know much about the past. But you definitely shouldn't make excuses for it and disrespect players like Hagi and call him obscure just because you are ignorant about them (as they are on the page, by 'you' here I mean you in general, not you as in Fati yourself. I know English is not your first language so making my language clear).

Why do you think that? He has repeatedly stated it to be the case.

Most Footballers aren't good with Football trivia questions. Die hard fans of the game have more knowledge than the average footballer. Footballers tend to have a better understanding of the game though because they actually played at the highest level and well, it's their job.

Which makes a lot of sense. Why the fuck would you care about watching Football after matchdays and training sessions. That's just too much Football. It's their job and there's loads of other fun and important things to do in life. It'd be really weird if a top level pro Footballer is a Football nerd. It'd be an unhealthy obsession and terrible for their mental health.

Watching football is nowhere close from actually playing it. But only those who play would know.

If anything, players that don’t watch it is because it doesn’t compare to actually playing it to them.

Or they develop a disdain to the industry altogether because things not working out as a player and having bad experiences.

But basically two different experiences.

There are also people obsessed with playing FIFA but don’t like watching football for example.

Yes. My point is that a die hard fan knows more facts and figures about the game.

It's like a movie buff doing better in a quiz than an actor.

Knowledge doesn't necessarily require talent.
