The booing is so out of hand already france contested a few gold medals to Brazil (and lost) yet still booed. It will be fun if Germany takes it. Then they'll boo their own team again.
I kinda hope so. I have nothing against brazil and I found their athletes to be extremely sympathetic, but the crowd makes it just so hard to wish them gold medals. I get that their fans want to see their athletes triumph, but theres just so much negativity and lack of respect towards the othe other nations, anthems getting bood, loosers being mocked, injuries getting cheered and the crowd would often try to disrupt athletes in sports where the crowd is isually going silent because the athletes need to concentrate, even making horses nervous in the riding disciplins. It's really going against the idea of the olympic spirit and I've not seen this in London and China and this will certainly not happen in Tokyo aswell.
This has been the case in most events with brazilian participation but also just against a handful of specific countries (USA, Germany, France and Argentina) even when they werent actually competing with brazil.
But all the hostilities aside, this has not been the case with all crowds there. Some were rather extremely respectful even when brazil lost to someone. Funnily enough the crowd in the Belo Horizonte during the 7-1 was one of the most respectful I've ever seen, even applauding Schürrle after his sweet 2nd goal and I also love the fact that the brazilians are the people who joke the most about the result.
But back to football: Brazil is fielding the best defense in the tournament, while we field the best offense. It will be an intense game that I'm really looking forward to and I think and hope that Germany will cooe well the hostile crowdd, they should be used to it by bow. Fun fact: the german womens team were training penalties before the semifinals, while their coaches and staff was booing them.
