an article from L'Equipe says that the main reason behind his injuries are because of the low workload in training sessions. A GPS tracker shows that 90% of dembele runs in a match is sprints while in training sessions its only 20%. So his body is not used to all those sprints when its matchday. The work load in barca training sessions is so low compared to his time in Ajax that De jong has hired his own personal trainer so he can trainer more intensive.

All those Oldies in the club cant run for shit, so they have to train less which is the cause of all the injuries this season. Sounds legit.

Dembele is clearly just innately prone to injuries. Sick of all these absurd theories about his training regimen

Not absurd theories at all. Trainings are meant to prepare you for games. If they are not well planned then players who push their bodies to the limit like Dembele does (let's face it, his sprints are full on every time, kid holds nothing back and goes full tilt for balls) the risk of injuries goes up a lot.

Why would you think something like that is 'absurd'? It makes perfect sense. Is there another attacking player who sprints like Dembele in this team that is doing fine and is fit? Don't see any.

I see a mega slow team playing at old men pace. You expect a team like that to prepare an athlete like Dembele properly? I don't. Like Dembele or not, he is an athlete and one of the fastest players in the world.

Wow. That's super sad. DeJong is one of the motivated ones.

Unfortunately genetic makeup can play an important part in being susceptible to sports injuries. It seems every other day there is some new revelation or epiphany about how if Dembele had eaten his cereal at 8:37am or taken a dump 30 mins before a game he would not have hamstring problems

Sure, but I was wondering why do you think Dembele's issues are genetical and not tied to training and preparations? Considering we all know how shit these two are at Barcelona.

Seems to me that L'Equipe came up with some really strong arguments. The fact that they proved Dembele's trainings were structured very differently compared to his actual in game requirements is really worrying.

That's like Usain Bolt traning for a 10.000m race instead of 100m dash. Like his whole training regime would be different.

True, it does make sense. Dembele seems to use a lot more stopping and starting/quick accelerations in his runs. Plus he uses more change of directions because he is ambipedal which seems like something that would put more strain on the legs.

European football world needs to learn more from how NBA, MLB, NFL, etc teams are creating and managing fitness program for their players. European coaches are like amateurs compared to America in this field.

I sort of disagree. NBA players have a strange diet. For example, Spurs enforce drinking chocolate milk to all their players. Lebron also has a terrible diet and Lakers never tell him to eat a certain way. There is also no universal way of working out for all teams. Some teams focus more on cardio while others focus more on weightlifting and use practice games/drills as their only form of cardio.

I also follow Hassan Whiteside (C for the blazers) on snapchat and he eats like shit even during game days. All sugar: pancakes, cereal, waffles, with a side of bacon

Also, there's a lot of pauses/breaks in NBA/NFL games, which means poor endurance is often masked. Endurance depends a lot more on training/conditioning/diet than sheer strength/athleticism/explosiveness which these league players have in spades.

Whereas in high intensity CL KO games, there's virtually no break from constant running for 45 mins. People underestimate how hard it is to play football at an elite level. It's no shock to me our seniors are physically FINISHED for example after winning so much over the years for club and NT.

NBA and MLB no way.

NFL is a different beast where almost every player follow a different diet and plan made by the team, but that's also because of the different positions/types of players and what they need.

Europe is still ahead on this compared to the States.

I mean it's just not Dembele.

Why does it seem like every player that comes here seems to completely drop in fitness level after a few months? While there is little doubt that Dembouz is injury prone, there is also a lot of evidence to support that Barca's fitness and training is not up to par.

He's not making it here. Will come back in August, play sporadically, injure himself a couple of times and we'll sell him in 2021.
