People still don't understand how player transfer fees are amortized over the duration of their contract and we don't need to sell for 110m just to break even.

For example in Dembele's case, he cost us 110m or whatever, so that means something like 22m/year, thus by being in his 4th year we already covered 88m of his contract fee. We just need to sell him for 22m to break even, anything above is going into our profits for the next fiscal year.

Of course we won't be able to sell him for 60m but that's just the starting point. We will meet in the middle with the next buyer if he ever leaves. Something like 40m is doable imo, he's still fairly young and the next team could think that he may finally be able to put it all together, who knows.

Most infuriating part of this whole ordeal is that he turned down a move to PSG multiple times because he wanted to "prove himself at Barca." Now all of a sudden he feels "hurt" and instead of securing Neymar's return with his exit, we will have to settle for 20-40m.

God forbid we extend him. It will end in an Arda type situation where we have to pay him off to move Everton or Arsenal on loan of the remainder of his contract in a year or two.

Yes yes like Barto said dembele is better than Neymar while desperately trying to offload Dembele to PSG and secure Neymar's return.

Wake up!

You are probably the one asleep.
Read any interview by Laporta mentioning Dembele. Guy loves him. Since the coach and technical department of the team wants him as well, there is 0 intention to sell from the club.

Not convinced about the reports saying the player himself wants out, but even if true he will be convinced to stay put.

Barto is a flithy liar, he can lie even to his mother. No use of comparing him to Laporta.
Please...

Hope Laporta is lying. Barca will have no future with Dembele. He is a big flop here. Time to move on for both.

We need to extend him to make a decent sum if he is sold.

But after the manner he forced his exit from Dortmund to us, we can't expect him to renew nor lament him for choosing not to.

So if you have a transfer budget of 100m you can buy 5 players for 100m each and give them 5 year contracts, then it doesn't even matter if they play or not, you'll be able to sell them for 20m each in the last year of their contracts and break even?

Dembele will have cost 110m+wages when he leaves. To break even you take his performances, the transfer fee recieved, and maybe "shirt sales" into account.

I doubt he really wants to leave. Barca has been his dream club and Griezmann is one of his closest friends.

It is just the worst possible moment to extend a contract as club is broke af and due to the pandemic most clubs won't pay what they would before Covid. His agent will advise not to extend his contract now. I doubt him leaving for free is a given if he doesn't extend now. There is still plenty of time to do it next season.

Look again over that math of yours, it's slightly wrong. But yeah, from a technical point of view, we need to sell him for 22m to break even and not incur a loss in the books.

The fact that he never justified that kind of money isn't the point mate. This is just how accounting works.

I'm stumbling into an argument that I wasn't part of, my bad.
I edited to 20m instantly, is this what you meant that was slightly wrong?

It's two different things right? Sounds a bit like the broken window fallacy to me.

We should sell him for 0 fee at this point. His contribution is minimal. He causes people expectations that will never materialize. He has really comical moments with his ball control and a rare, Coutinho level rare, long shot goal.

We should have seen it coming from his presentation.

[TV3] | It seems that Dembele does NOT want to renew his contract at Barca, and the club plans to add him to the transfer market in the summer.

Feel free to go.

Dumbest thing I ever heard. I'm glad you're not the sporting director at Barca. Players would walk all over you like a doormat. If dembele isn't sold he leaves on a free for a fact signing bonus

If he tries leaving for free I hope he never plays another game riddled with injuries. We?ve gave him every opportunity a player could want in football. If he gives us the middle finger it?s betrayal on another level.

He went on strike to join us from Dortmund.

Karma :) for signing a player like that
