Bad decision to sideline him, we need him while he is here and sending him to the stands won't force him to leave in the next 10 days or so of the remaining January window.

And if we start playing him again after the January window it will make us look quite stupid.

I don't think anyone cares about that. This is all about the money. Also it's not like we are sidelining a franchise player like Mbappe. This guy is just another dumb player who will never reach his full potential and nothing more than that.

Well perhaps you are right, as we have been a laughingstock on so many fronts in the last couple of years so maybe nobody would care if we do an 180 in two weeks or so and start playing him again. We do need him.

Could he be useful during the next 6 months? I suppose he could, but it's not like he will single-handedly win games for us. If he was such a great player no one would even think about benching him or sending him to the stands. Just look at the other examples like Mbappe or even players like Brozovic, Rudiger, Christensen etc. They will probably all leave for free in summer but they are still playing because their clubs need them. Dembele probably lied to the club for over 6 months and all people within the club are fed up with him and his agent so I can understand their decision. To be fair no one should care about this idiot who gave nothing to this club.

Those players are also much more professional than Dembele. They will do the job no matter what and also playing for a huge contract. (Dembele got paid huge once already).

We don't need him to signle-handedly win games for us, we need him to do stuff for us, causing a bit trouble up front, distracting some defenders and providing covers for other players, whatever. Especially at a time when our front is so barren, even with some players returning, still many question marks.

This has nothing to do with how one feels about him, like most folks here I can't wait to get him out of here but while he is still here and we are the ones paying his wages, we might as well get the most out of him.

Sending him to the stands won't accomplish our goal, which is to force him to renew (he won't) or leave now (he won't), so what are we doing here, giving him a free 6-month long paid vacation?

Exactly. Anyone who thinks that he will suddenly become a great professional is leaving in the world of dreams. He could join United or PSG or whoever gives more money to him but he will never be a player who makes a difference in the long run. Unfortunately he is too dumb and too lazy for that.

If he doesn't leave during the next 10 days Xavi will use him. He specifically said that he won't bench him so I suppose that's clear. They are now trying to get rid of his salary. Simple as that. If he doesn't leave he will probably be on the bench against Atletico. Fati-Depay-Torres will probably be our starting trio in the reminder of the season and Dembele could be our solution from the bench.

what makes you say we need him? he isnt (nor has he ever--or very infrequently) exactly winning matches for us

Exactly my point, dropping him right now is just a tactic to force him to leave now, however it won't work and we will be happily welcoming him back in two weeks. It makes us look stupid.

Because our front line sucks and whenever he played lately, we had a breath of fresh air and things became possible. Again, not saying he is as good as Mbappe or other players that win games for their teams, just saying we need all the help we can get right now in the attacking and scoring department.

But why? It's better to try if there is even 5% chance we can get rid of him and his salary than to play him against Deportivo Alaves and Bilbao in Copa. IMHO Alemany is doing a very good job so I am sure he knows what he is doing right now. I don't think anyone can blame him for trying to get rid of this idiot during the next couple of days. If we can save couple of millions great if we fail to do that just use him from the bench when needed. Simple as that.

I'd bench him. His ceiling is enticing and he did play well last game -- but -- it's still a gamle with him either way.

If he could guarantee solid useful contributions it would be another story but I don't like the idea of playing someone who's half out the door just because he might be helpful.

IMHO people are overreacting about Demebele's contribution on the field. It's not like we decided to bench Messi or Ronaldinho!

I understand why they are doing it but I am saying it is going to be wishful thinking to think it might work, we will see.
