True, but he did improve considerably in the last part of the season as a striker to a relatively competent level.

It is clear that he shouldn't be playing on the wings though and that if he is not going to be replacing Suarez in the middle when the latter is injured then indeed we are better off selling him.

I don't really believe he was at a competent level. He usually slotted in with two of MSN when he was at the height of his form. And even then, his best quality seemed to be quickly passing them the ball so they could score. His actual quality as a poacher left much to be desired, he was most often completely out of position to fill the role of a poacher and we often saw the ball loose in the box with him being nowhere near able to get to it.

The reason he plays on the wing is the same reason Munir and Sandro played there before him despite both of them being strikers all the way up through the academy. He was chosen over Munir despite (At least imo) being an equal quality player with less knowledge of the system, and with Neymar leaving the need for him to play on the wing has gone up, not down. Luckily we brought Deulofeu back and Denis is seen as a winger by Valverde, because with just Paco there to be our backup we'd be up a creek.

Milan are a historic team but were still a shit team for years until this summer. We may as well have signed Suso and Bacca from Milan than Paco and Gomes. They wouldn't have been any worse.

Valencia are an average La Liga side and were in a relegation battle the season we signed Gomes and Paco. So we were signing relegation fodder players. Okay you can still be good in a bad team, but they aren't that good.
