Well he's wrong. :p

I don't think we need him at present, I can't see him dislodging any of our regular midfield players, Iniesta, Raki or Busi. He's not going to come here to warm the bench or get rotated.

My guess is he'll end up at City in probably a year or so's time, after the Euros.

Question..

Let's assume we sign him, for a ridiculous fee + wages.Where is he going to play and who will he replace in the current team ?

Genuine question this, as I have doubts about him actually fitting in.

He would be competing with aging Iniesta for LCM
if he joins in 2016 Iniesta will be 32 by then .And while gr8 ending to the season might made people forget but this was overall one of Iniesta's worst season in his career and he has been in a clear decline since Tata's season .sooner or later he will need to be replaced _with Pogba or someone else_ and take Xavi bench role of the past season.

Laporta really shouldn't be promising anyone after failing to deliver his promised Beckham in 2003.

And it worked like a charm. Laporta won the elections. It's sad that it's like this though. A well plan for the future of the club should be what the socis should aim for, not signings.

Rosell and Bartomeu were together with Laporta then and Marc Ingla said that Rosell had a major role to play when he persuaded Florentino not to speak up despite of Real Madrid already having a deal for Beckham, and they didn't. Real Madrid never said anything about the claims made by Team Laporta who edged out the opposition in the final moments because of that promise which sparked something special for the club.

But I do agree, that these promises shouldn't be the way to go.

He hasn't promised signing him though .he just stated the fact that he would like to get him which is ok ,Bartomeu & Bendito both previously talked about him too

I'm of the opinion that iniesta's time should be scaled back this upcoming season cause unless its a big game he doesnt seem to put in the required effort, give Rafinha or Suarez is he comes back that time and Pogba if he ends up coming eventually.

I see your reasoning, but I think Iniesta has a couple of years left in him. He's not finished just yet.You could also argue that playing behind Neymar has lessened his impact in games, either way I don't see Pogba as a replacement right now.

Pogba's stats in Serie A: 8 goals and just 3 frickin assists in 24 games. and this guy is supposed to be an attacking midfielder. Cant believe we're actually going to buy him. Getting sick of these galactico signings.

he has a similar role to iniesta, who doesn't get too many assists himself. A lot of great players in that role don't have great stats but make a massive impact on the teams play.

And there is nothing wrong with galacticos per se as long as they are valuable additions to your team and make sense. Unlike the madrid policy which was buy the latest superstar and think about how your team will work later. in my opinion Pogba does make sense from a football pov.

Well the chemistry between the players was fantastic this last season, we've given new / extended contracts to players, I don't think we need to make any "big" signings personally.

That' why it's a done deal. Both Laporta and Barto (who ever wins) will sign Pogba and Tuttosport today saying that Pogba only wants Barcelona move.

We need to think ahead and think about replacing Iniesta over the next few years. Pogba plays his role and is going to be one of the best in the world for years to come, he also has defensive skills to add to his attacking skills even if he is a bit undisciplined at the moment.

Obviously there's other options but I think Pogba could be a great one.

After the groundwork was set for months by Barto/Braida and Pogba has reportedly long ago decided he wants to move to Barca.
How much groundwork could actually be done that early, besides: "Would you like to come to Barcelona"? and "How does €'x' salary sound"? You wouldn't want to make an enemy of Juventus with overzealous tactics.
Laporta, Barto, whoever. It doesn't matter which candidate. 80-100M and 10-12M net wages is absurd.

You'd think he would be a long term 'replacement' for Iniesta after the 2016/17 season, by which time Don will be 32 yo. But then, where does that leave the likes of Rafinha, S. Roberto, Denis, Samper, Halilovic etc?

We don't know how these players will progress next season following Xavi's departure. A lot can change in one season. One of them could end up having a phenomenal campaign, making it impossible for the coach to leave him out and then our midfield situation could look very different.

Where would that leave Pogba then?
