I'll be straight up honest about how I feel about Pedro. I may get some flak from some of you guys but it's to be expected.
I just feel like he offers virtually nothing to our attack. That may be a harsh way of putting it. But let's look at last night's game. Comes on, immediately fails attempting a dribble. Has a couple great opportunities to SHOOT at the goal and passes it back. He shows no confidence, no self-belief, and his body language just says it all to me. He's not a terrible player by any stretch of the imagination, but I feel he is really overrated by some of our fans and our team itself apparently.
He seems to just occupy space when he is playing. He doesn't beat defenders, his dribblers typically always fail, he doesn't make effective runs, he doesn't shoot when he needs to shoot... offensively he offers so little from what I have seen over the past 2 seasons.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's a completely garbage player.. there are upsides to his game... yes he does "try hard" and put in a lot of work defensively... but Barcelona playing a 4-3-3 does not need one creator/scorer and 2 offensive defenders as the 3 up front (Messi, Pedro and Alexis). Alexis has shown a lot more attacking versatility than Pedro up front in recent times, but that's not saying much.
Like I said, I know this may seem harsh, but I am coming at this from Barcelona standards. We used to have strikers of Eto'o and Henry playing up front alongside Messi and our great midfielders. Attackers that had the ability and self-belief to beat defenders 1v1, make intelligence runs and FINISH plays. Pedro is just so far off from that in his current form, and I think he just deserves no more chances in the squad. Comes on and really doesn't add anything, just continues in relative mediocrity. Hasn't proven he can be the Pedro of old...
I say we stop giving him so many chances and make way for new and promising prospects like Tello, Cuenca (ESPECIALLY him... can't wait til he gets back from loan, that guy has talent), etc. Attackers with the mindset to actually score goals and shoot and beat defenders. Time and time I try to give him the benefit of the doubt but he lets me down. I feel if Pep was still here Pedro wouldn't be anywhere CLOSE to the field right now.
