Pep supports a march in favour of Catalonia's independence. By Marca.

:party1::worthy::party1::worthy:

so what do you expect will happen if Catalonia gets it's independence? what are the benefits for Catalonia's independence besides pride?

also will it be a fully independent sovereign state or will it just be devolution like in Scotland which is still a part of the UK?

Spain is a cancer for Catalonia in a politic, cultural and economical sense.

And nothing less than a fully independent severeignity is a prank.

I have a friend (portuguese as i am) working in an 5 stars plus Michelin stars hotel/restaurant Barcelona, and he told me that the best hotels are there and in Pais basco.

how will things be better economically? does Catalonia produce a large portion of Spain's GDP?

Fiscal deficit is almost 5.3% of GDP as estimated for this year . The problems are much more complex. EU forecasted figures are higher than the ones foreseen by the inefficient Spanish administration. This Spanish government keeps on oppressing PIMES in and around Barcelona and the fiscal position is much more complex now. And Spainish government/parties like PP based in Madrid takes pure advantage of it .Companies and real estate bunches have decided to move their based from Barcelona to Madrid and they are opening minor to major offices in Madrid to benefit from the Madrid fiscal conditions and they are even moving abroad . Spanish government is doing everything to economically weaken Barcelona so that the desire and movement for independent state dries down . They have ordered 10% Budget cut for Catalunya and its the second year in a row that they are doing it . Last year , The Vice-President of Economy from the Spanish government, Elena Salgado declared that their administration has no legal obligation now to pay the 1.450 milion Euros agreed funds for competitiveness to Catalunya. According to her, this amount of money is not to be payable until the end of 2013. Salgado also declared that they are not even sure about the accurate figures, so when the time comes, they will see the exact amount of money for these funds. However, the approved new ESTATUT of Catalonia, that was approved on 2010 also by the Spanish parliament, includes a clause that funds for ensuring market competitiveness are to be paid to Catalan government on a yearly basis.

This way Spanish government is taking away the Capital from Barcelona and diminishing the economical catalan power of the state , just to make it weaker .In the meantime the government policies and bankers go on squeezing people, while the Spanish administration continues to generate more unemployment .

Last year there was also an official voting for the cause- Independence of Catalunya . Catalan people were asked to vote for the non-official referendum that are taking place in all municipalities along Catalan territory since 2009. The results were hugely positive for the creation of an independent Catalan state.

89.7 % (estimated) people voted for the creation of an independent Catalan state .

At this day , Catalan Parliament is continuously working for an effective policy that will suggest what actions should be taken to declare the state an independent Catalan state during the next 2 years.

Well explained, Ryan.

Yes, but Euskadi has special laws that allow them to collect and manage their own taxes. Catalonia don't, they depend on Spain. It is simple: would you like someone who hates you to manage your money? No, of course. And now you may ask: "So why Spain don't let Catalonia to manage their own money?" Because as Ryan said, they are interested in empoverish Catalonia to make it docile and submissive. You know, if you don't have money, you don't have power.

Generally Delightful
Whenever I'm faced with this independence debate I find myself asking two questions:

What is stopping Catalunya from being independent? It takes little less than passing a bill and voting on the subject and Spain is required to accept it.

and

Why isn't Catalunya independent by now if support is so high for independence?

Mind you I'm completely neutral in this debate and do not wish to take sides since it is not for me to decide. These are merely questions that I'd like answered.

In all honesty, I believe Catalunya will become independent within a time span of 30 years (at maximum).

It is also a question about if the independant nation of Catalunya will be recognized as a nation by their peers. Who is supporting the independance? Who is willing to go against Spain for whatever the reason? etc etc. It's just not about just getting paper signed by the people who wants independance. It is lot more complex situation.

Just saying.
