Reading the article on goal.com, one of the main points is if Pep signs the contract and the new President wants him out, the pay-off he will receive would be a large sum. He is thinking about the club in that respect as you never know what is around the corner.

That, and maybe he has other plans for the future... With this whole idea for a sporting director role. Perhaps he's thinking about that already! It would be good timing too, if he were able to co-ordinate with the new regime.
