Philippe Coutinho

This guy was sensational for Liverpool. He hasn't become a bad player. If Messi goes he could thrive as the main man if given the chance.

I really like him and was one of the biggest supporters of this transfer. I thought he was the right choice as replacement for Iniesta. Thing is, some years later, I see it differently. He just doesn't come across as the type of player who leads a team. Neither as a captain like Puyol nor as a player like Messi. Every time he plays well is when things are running well for his team. In that case, he literally becomes unplayable for opposition. This was the case at Liverpool before he joined Barcelona, this was the case in the first few months at Barcelona. Things were running good in La Liga and he seemed to justify his transfer with goals and assists. After that season, things were getting more difficult for the team and he slowly started to lose his spot in the team. Even when he was coming from the bench, he was a non-factor and couldn't turn things around when team needed a change.

Coutinho is a much fitter player than he was before he left for his loan. The basics are there and I hope Koeman finds the right words to motivate Coutinho that give him the necessary confidence. I just have my doubts that he can be the leader this team desperately needs after Leo is gone.

He was good for us when he signed. But this wasn't 6 months ago, it was in early 2018. At that time Umtiti was still considered a professional footballer.

Sure we can hope (I do too), but it will take a lot for him to reach Liverpool/early Barca level, might even be impossible.

He is a luxury player, will only be of some use when the team is dominating. Otherwise he is as average as Denis and Rafinha.

You guys are too extreme. He is not going to be the main man, neither the worst of the team. He is going to be a good player that may help a lot. We shouldn't pursue a ONE MAN team again for a while. For now, we should look at Bayern and Ajax (from De Jong and De Ligt). A more coletive game.

Before Barcelona, he played really well in games against rivals. He was the best playing for Brazil in 2014. So he had personality. Something really broke in him, and now we are going to try to fix him.
