In Liverpool he was targeted as well, but he did always find the space with tricks and dribbling and fast touches... It's nice to see old Coutinho coming back, the protagonist!

He got less egoistic compared to the beginning at Bayern - but seldomly started the recent months. M?ller offers more with his last ball, was essential to the pressing and as second coach on the pitch - and as helper for Lewy and with his movement. As Flick knew how to get the best out of M?ller and that better matched into the whole concept Coutinho did not have a chance. But I could imagine that the whole approach Bayern has - all not being about the individualist but about functioning together - might have influenced him.
And he might be one that plays better without public - especially when it is more negative about him. There is players that even thrive when they have to fight against animosities - he for sure is not one of them.

Main difference between pre-valverdian cout and post-valverdian cou is that he doesn't hogg the ball at all.. I count few seconds max.. Sometimes just three touches before he gets rid of it. That's a great improvment

I think it's important with Coutinho to use him in areas where he has a 360 degree movement and passing angle. His style is to use feints and maneuver the ball in all directions to evade interventions from the opponent. Did that masterfully well vs Celta.
Same with Hazard. These are not players you stuff them wide near the sidelines, and ask them to beat their man with a field vision and moving angle of about 25-30% compared to a central position. To put it simple, in central positions you can move everywhere, so it's harder for the opponent to know beforehand what you'll do. In the wing, near the sideline, the duels often end up being decided by speed, explosiveness, quickness, agility and trickery, because the list of things you can actually do is very short.
Trickery alone without pace doesn't cut it in the wing. If you don't have speed as a winger, any decent fullback will block you on the inside usually, and just leaves you the outside. The best wingers are usually those that can pass a fullback on the outside if given an opening there.
Think about Vinicius vs Hazard. If you position yourself to cut the inside on a player like Vinicius and give him too much leeway on the outside, he would use his speed and would dust you. And Vinicius is not some great player. But he is very fast, and insists on using his speed to win 1 vs 1s. Athleticism and speed are essential if you use conservative wingers.

Oh so it's Valverde's fault what's happening with Todibo or Malcolm in Russia, he still sux. Countinho started good in Barca with Valverde then everything went downhill after having mediocre hames. You know the difference ? There are fans watching him in the stadium the whistle him, he can't handle the pressure
With the big expectations and price tag he mentally collapsed. Unlike now, no live humans watching him and no more big expectations, so no pressure for him that's why he is doing well. If he was so great in Germany he will be an automatic starter with Bayern not a bench player

Bayerns bench player walks into to this team and looks like a star. Coutinho looks again strong physically and mentally. Yes, this is not coincidence.
Valverdes low intensity day care fucked us good. He never cared about physical preparation.

My opinion about a current Messi is that a team will play faster, more creative, more as a team = if a ball will get less to him.
He is the only player, besides Busi, who slows down the play, dwells on the ball, making ilogical decisions, dribbles through 3 players all the time, shooting selfishly when others are in better positions.
I would say that: Ev, physical preparation, weak mental strength, granny slow paced build up, and too much of Messipendencia killed Coutinho version 1.0 at Barca.

Problem back then under Valverde is all the ball to Messi tactic. He had to use 433 to please fans and board and Messi had all the ball to play (even when he was marked by several players). Messi has one of his best season ever under Valverde. Plus Coutinho started to decline at the beginning of 2018/2019 season. Not only did he play out of position, his form also terrible, could not handle pressure from his price and fans.
Now with no fan, there is no pressure and of course Koeman gives him his position and reduce Messi's effect. All to help him shine.
