That's because they know there is less pressure on this team to win with Messi gone. No more being scapegoated for not pulling their weight while Messi does his heroics.

They won't get too much criticism now for a trophyless season.

There might be lower expectations for this team but not much will change for them individually. They might become even bigger scapegoats for some people who will blame them for Messi leaving.

I hope Coutinho is eager to prove himself this season. If he is back to 60%-70% of his previous self I am happy.

he was pretty decent before the injury last season. combining well with messi. but then again, that was a very small sample and now he'll have to combine with depay/griezmann.

I'm going to tag you if they flop this season. And if they succeed, you can tag me :mou:

I don't know if they'll flop.

I am just saying that they look way happier.
Not every player in the world needs to be happy for playing in a team where every action goes through one player, regardless of how good he is.

Well, I sure hope so, but my feeling is that a lot of fans are just feeling apathetic after the Messi departure.

Sure, but if happiness is the metric, Messi also looks happier that he isn't surrounded by bums like Coutinho and Dembele.

Might not have been able to sell him last summer anyway, but it was reported that Koeman insisted on Coutinho staying since he really liked him. I believe Coutinho even said Koeman called him right after the CL final to tell him he would be a big part of his plans.

Coutinho more freedom??? Lol. What about Griezmann??? Will he get more freedom???

Coutinho just lost all his spark. He may have some good moments but that's all.

They may both rise to the challenge .. in some ways the average workload has gone down as it?s all shared between ten outfield players instead of 9

Messi had many amazing moments but as soon as we lost possession he lost interest.. there is a clip doing the rounds of just such an instance.. we lost the ball and he turned his back on the play and was looking down at the ground for some reason ... maybe just zoning out ?

The only time he chased back was when he lost possession..

Only Griezmann will do defensive work. Forget Coutinho.
Both Griezmann and Coutinho need freedom to roam, operate same space. Unless Koeman somehow suddenly turns Coutinho into a CM like Iniesta.

TBH IF we can't offload Cou (very likely) I wouldn't mind seeing something like this. Should obviously try out in easier games before playing this lineup against RM/AM. :D

MATS
defense
Pedri-FDJ-Cou
--Griez--
-Memphis-Ansu-

But this probably has more to do with me just not wanting to see Busi in the lineup than being desperate to give another chance to Cou. :D
