Am I going to answer your question? of course I will, what question was it?

What makes me more happy? A trophy makes me more happy, but would I prefer a CL win but endless debt, vs no trophies, but a great near future?

Give me the great near future, because once you're gone from the top it's extremely difficult to get back and to stay there. Yes I am serious.

Finances is everything nowdays. Business is not a secondary factor. For a little kid watching a match, they wouldn't take money into consideration, they'll see it as 11 players vs 11 players: That's basic thinking.

Business is everything, it's why Serie A is dogshit, it's why Milan is shit, why Inter are shit, it's why Arsenal are coming to the fore now, it's why Barcelona and Madrid dominate Spanish and European football, it's why the likes of City and Chelsea have emerged.

Business is the primary factor for a football club to succeed. I use to shout "WENGER OUT" after 2 year of going trophy-less like a idiotic, moronic, super-fickle football fan. Then I wised up to the position Wenger and we were in from 2005 up until summer 2013

I'm not blind to the fact that context matters, and so does long term planning. But it is all in the pursuit of success which is ultimately decided on the field. I know this. Building a strong platform increases future success. That's our thinking and mentality.

Question for those who think it's easy to build a £400m stadium and stay at top. Why have Chelsea, L'pool, Spurs, E'ton done it?

Great near future? Yeah Chelsea and City will bow down and admit that only Arsenals way is the right way and will let them win trophies and let them have that great future. You sound like Xavi who thinks Tiki taka is the only way. Face it no player with ambition and a winning mentality will go to arsenal rather than city Chelsea etc if arsenal don't win trophies.

The more powerful we are behind the scenes, the more chance of success on the pitch, what do you not get? I'm not saying we'll be walking to Premier leagues season after season, but if I was a betting man, I'd say we'd have a better next 5 years, than the last 5 years, and that's all due to the finances.

City and Chelsea are in a league of their own, but we (hopefully) will at least be able to stand up against them. If the summer passes Wenger and no top player is signed, and we wobble when coming up against every top team, then I'd say his time is up and it's only right to look for another manager, but not atm.

when will arsenal have paid off the debts? from that point on they can spend big money and go for a title challenge.

I know that. Same can be said with any club when comparing to them two giants simply because they can offer wages that are out of this world.

Last summer we can now spend over 25/30m on a single player.

The Debts for the stadium? Initially 2020, with £20m per year, but we renegotiated it until 2030, with only 12m-13m per year.

you could try and start challenging for a title now. the squad does have a shit mentality though and alot of average players.

This question: If a real top class (winning) coach had been in charge of Arsenal with the same squad of players, a Pep, a Klopp, a Mourinho, do you think they would be struggling to make the top 4?

Arsenal were fortunate that they had a plot of land right next to Highbury to build the new stadium. Those clubs you mentioned don't have that luxury. And Arsenal did sell the land at Highbury for a hefty sum to put towards the new stadium.

If Wenger put as much emphasis on building a team, rather than building Arsenal's bank balance, I'm confident that you would've had greater success ON the field.

So in effect you're are saying that you a competing for 3rd place?

What top player (realistically) would you sign to allow you to compete against your rivals? And ONLY signing 1 player will make this leap?

:eusa_think: I think the team needs more than one player to really close that gap.

.

Impossible for me to say, if I had to guess? possibly. Ramsey and Ozil both said Wenger was the reason they joined. Ozil had an offer from United, and Ramsey had an offer from United too. Both said Wenger made them feel special and very needed to his project, both rejected United and joined us.

could Mourinho/Guardiola do the same? Yeah I think so. So it's impossible for me to say.

I think somebody like Mourinho wouldn't have played youngsters in the Carling Cup back in 07/08, and would have played the biggest and best players... So we'd most likely be 1 trophy better off (assuming we'd have beaten Chelsea)

Give me any competent striker lol My first pick? Diego Costa.

What Chelsea does is irrelevant to us. All we have to do is improve our own side, we only play Chelsea twice a season in the league. With a better striker than Giroud it's obvious we'll accumulate a lot more points. and be closer.

Err, that's not very difficult though is it? Considering Arsenal have won jack-shit in the last five years.

What? you're acting as if we finished mid table and the last 5 years have been a travesty.
This isn't La Liga, it's actually difficult to get into the top 4 in the Premiership.
I'm not one of them "But top 4 is a trophy" kind of fans, but it isn't a given, for any club.
Chelsea got into the CL last season because they won the damn thing the season before lol Plus look at United this season.

For any genuinely big club, this many years without a single trophy, finishing fourth every year and getting knocked out the first time you face a big team in the CL would be a travesty.

But it's clear you're one of those pathetic "next year will be better" Arsenal fans so if you wan't to celebrate the fact that you did better than Man Utd this year, go ahead.

This may be true, but there are plenty of players that left Arsenal because of Wenger.

Are you not including the 2011 League Cup Final vs Birmingham? It's not a leap of faith to suggest that had Pep, Klopp or Mourinho been Arsenal manager, they would have won that trophy.

This is what I think Arsenal need:

1. GK - Szczesny is too error prone to ever be an elite GK. Valdes is available in the summer on a free, he'd be a great signing.
2. CB - Still not convinced with Koscielny and Mertesacker.
3. CM - A leader with physical presence, who is aggressive, able to retain the ball and dictate play.
4. CF - Anyone better than Giroud.

Get these 4 players and a world class manager and you can compete with Citeh, Chel$ki and anyone else you care to think of.
