United had only been a giant on the continent for about a decade, 99-09. Same for the whole of EPL for that matter outside of their dominant run in the late 70's and early 80's. Things are just going back to normal.

Speaking of, the bubble the EPL is currently experiencing will burst soon if they don't start playing better football. Financial Fair Play is on its way out which will again attract investors to Spain, Italy, & France. While on the other hand top players, especially from my side of the world, are going to be less willing to sacrifice playing in the EPL for the wages when there's superior footballing alternatives in more culturally similar countries.

From what I know, EPL revenue just keeps going ballistic. I don't know, maybe a global financial crisis can prick their bubble :lucho:

As for FFP going out, rich benefactors have not done Spain or Italy much good up to now.

Like I said many times on this forum, I am deeply worried about the EPL's epic financial power. It simply pulverizes everyone else. Continental teams must come up with something real quick.

Yes. But Real Madrid kept on getting knocked out in the Last 16 for each of the 5 seasons before his arrival. So yes, they did suck in the same manner Arsenal suck now. Under his tenure, they reached the Semi-Finals in each of the seasons he was in charge. They also won a league title, at a time when Barca seemed unstoppable.

Nope, Real Madrid were quite mediocre before Florentino took over in the summer of 2009 (after our first Treble) and poured the money in. They had one failure against Lyon before Jose took over. After Jose took over, even more players were brought in (Ozil, Di Maria etc)

Now, people have completely forgotten what the narrative surrounding Jose in 2010 was really like. It was not that he was a very good manager. No! The vast majority of pundits as well as football fans kept on raving about what a genius Jose was, that he possessed the "codes" for defeating Barca, that he had the magic recipe for stopping Messi, that he could win the CL with just about any halfway decent team and that with Real Madrid's budget and galaxy of stars (remember, during that period Real Madrid were far and away the biggest spenders in world football) more CL trophies were just around the corner. He got a massive three-year contract which gave him three shots at winning the title that Real Madrid were dying for for a decade! He failed in that and there can be no arguing against it.

It was also said that he would create a club better than ours. Again, he failed. Winning one league title out of three (during a very weak season for us, 2012 was far and away our weakest season under Pep) that was turbocharged by the Spanish refs was no big deal. Like I said so many times before, winning leagues here and there with an extremely rich club is simply par for the course. No big deal at all. And that's what Jose is, par for the course. The reason he gets more acclaim than he deserves, is that due to our media-controlled age, there is an obscene amount of appetite for any kind of "controversial" and "charismatic" figure that can draw the attention of the shallow masses. This is the reason why Jose and his "legend" exist. In any case, managers matter little. Give me (or you, or anyone) the right players, and I would smash any combinations of "world-class" managers to a pulp if all they have is lesser players than mine. This is the brutal reality that people cannot accept and are misled by short-term fluctuations in the fortunes of this or the other club.

At what point do we concede that, transfers aside, Rodgers probably wasn't such a bad manager after all?

If FFP is out that makes it worse for everyone else. Think of the teams left in the PL that can be invested in.. West Ham - Olympic Stadium, London.. check. Tottenham Hotspur - New 65k stadium, London.. check.. Birmingham clubs (2m people) - Aston Villa etc. Leeds United (1m people, 1 team). Newcastle United, Everton...

Many big clubs left with good projects available.

I am not sure many investors would want to put big money in EPL clubs anymore (ala Chelsea/City).this isn't the NBA where everyone get his fair chance with salary cap . the PL is getting saturated with big investors and If I am a businessman I might think of "easier" new market where I my investment money will open new market .sort of PSG in France rather than competing with already established 5 or 6 rich teams

Of course they will when PL teams rake in insane revenue and are also viewed by more people than other leagues in the world. Man City after all their investment are actually making money now (not that it matters to their owners). Most of the investors are doing it for sponsorship purposes anyway. Qataries are buying up the Olympic village in London, will not be surprised at all if they buy West Ham next.

PSG will always be limited by their league and lack of competition. There is not many PSG opportunities left either (huge iconic city 1 team).

My god Lallana is awful.

32 PL games, 1 goal - plays in a front 3. He's ever invisible. I hate the fact pundits somehow always have the cheek to praise whatever it is he does on the field, which is to be generous, nothing. Doing these daily interviews and having friends who are pundits help mask what a dreadful signing this guy has been. I used to enjoy watching Liverpool - mostly because of Suarez - but with this guy, they are playing with 10 men every game.

There will be always investors .but for PL I think it will be more of Liverpool/Manu owners type of investors than Chelsea/City investors
Guys who are going for easy money in a growing brand ,not the ones coming for making a new club relevant and taking early risks
France is very comparable economically to England so may be there will be investors for clubs like Lyon & Marseille
Also Italy and Spain are starting to attract investment too . Valencia are headed into right direction and A.Madrid has new Chinese investors in addition to the new Stadium .Malaga experience while didn't continue as good as its start but they are still much better club than they were once was

Even with El Classico, Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Suarez and Bale La Liga is miles behind the PL market wise, French league isn't even in same stratosphere. I don't know why super rich owners would buy into clubs in these leagues to be honest. The PL is becoming the NFL of football/soccer. Make if a giant club like Milan becomes available for cheap then yes.
