City just can‘t catch a break.
They are missing the bit of luck which Liverpool is having so far this season.
Yet both will get problems with their shaky defence in knockout stages of the CL if they can‘t fix it.
Their defense is a mess. And the forwards aren't clinical enough to bail the defense out. They need way too many chances to score.
Guardiola and his staff are crap at signing good defenders. Was the same at Barcelona.
Who is in charge of organizing the defense?
The manager.
This I fully agree with. Good thing he inherited Puyol back then.
Except the City defense make individual blunders. Like Fernandinho did today and Otamendi did vs Norwich. It is a question of player quality.
This logic doesn't seem to apply with Valverde though.
Most of the goals conceded v. Liverpool and Roma were through individual defensive mistakes rather than any sort of poor defensive setup. There were things EV could have done better in those matches of course, but we still would have comfortably qualified in both cases had our defense had not wet the bed.
Yet you lot cannot help but pin all the blame on him.
Most of the goals conceded vs Liverpool and Roma were an outcome of the fact that the team spent the whole game under pressure. This happened due to the manager being negative and not trying to control the game, but rather defend the lead attained in the first leg. When you play the whole game on the back foot trying to survive and defend the lead, this invites pressure. And pressure is the most common mistake generator in football. So when the defense fails because you were unable to clear the pressure and instead invited more and more of that due to how you approached the game, that is mostly down to the manager. On the other hand, when a defender makes a blunder in a game you control, totally unprovoked, which happens a lot at City, that is the player's fault.
That should've been a red card. They should abandon VAR there, it's useless.
