Will be really interesting if they don't catch top 4. There's a risk of that happening looking at how things go in EPL.

If anything, this just shows how stupid it is to expect anything but a blowout in top level competition playing the same players 3-4-5+ years (whatever your definition of a cycle is). Age, attrition, complacency, injuries ensure against this.

Some of our starters like Messi, Pique and Busquets were dominating CL in 2008. Imagine thinking that they could still do a job in the CL KO in 2021.:lol::lol:

An interesting trend in our CL humiliations is that since 2017, despite our purchases, the same old amigos find their way when it's time for a CL KO game. Managerial selection. Injuries. Cowardice. Whatever the reason. We won't see a damn difference until each one of these finished carcasses is thrown out.

Yea, I've come to a full understanding of how cyclic things are, especially when we talk about the really top tier clubs. They all take turns. The only club to have found a recipe to win even with not so great teams is Madrid.

Seems like each top club goes through several rebuilding cycles and every decade or so, get their share of spotlight, longer or shorter, depending on multiple factors. When neither club is in a special spotlight, Madrid come and steal the cake. They also steal the cake from right under the nose of non-killer clubs having their unusual moment of glory, like vs Valencia (2000), Leverkusen (2002), Atletico (2014, 2016). It's uncanny .

They have the weight of history in their favor, even when they don't have great teams.

Teams shit their pants against them in the CL more often than not because it's Real Madrid. Lads were known as the Vikings in the 1950s because they destroyed clubs all over Europe in the CL.

Barca also has the weight of history lately, but it's in the opposite direction. Teams know we will fold (at least this group of players) and they've known this since Anfield where it didn't even take Salah + Firmino to make us implode.

Yea, Madrid would be the Lannisters. We'd be Starks.

Juve/Atletico are Boltons for sure. Bayern/Liverpool are the Targaryens.

What are you talking about? CL is a Red Wedding that never ends for us. We're Starks for sure. Naive until he end. No wonder many of them end up dead.

Also, Starks vs Lannisters is El Clasico of Game of Thrones.

PSG/CIty are Nightwalkers, and UEFA are a very poor generation of Guardians of the Wall with no John Snow to keep the Nightwalkers out.

Everton going too defensive too early. They need to respond on the counter and don't allow Liverpool to attack with every player.
