Setién is out of his depth at a club of this stature. He is going to run our players into the ground as they will be chasing our opponent's counter attacks every game, all the more so without them being rested.
None of the younger players have looked any good under his tenure either. So much for "promoting youth" as the many naive fans here have rambled on about.
It would not surprise one bit to see him finish on a record-low number of points for a Barca manager in the past few decades given his easy set of fixtures is now over.

Real Madrid has Bale, Hazard, Rodrygo, Vinicius, and Vasquez for wingers. One is injured and they have 4 players for 2 positions.

We have Dembele and Ansu Fati, since Dembele's perpetually injured it's just the 17 year old as our first choice winger. What the fuck...? Isn't this supposed to be one of the best clubs in the world? How do we have 0 senior wingers right now...

This is why you try to keep a balance of squad players.

Someone like Malcom would have been very useful right now. Yes, he was never likely going to be a starter here, but to have a player like him for depth/injuries/rotation would have been very useful.

Unfortunately, Valverde's disaster-class squad management drove him out of the club after 9 months.

you wanted to be ironical but eventually shit your pants. nobody would have fired him(maybe florentino high on cocaine) after the roma debacle and rightly so. we were doing great in the league(results wise) and finished the season with a double.

last year's elimination against liverpool was truly the moment to fire him. it would have been a legit move by the board, players wouldn't have actually complained and we would have got a better manager(than 4-5th option setien) which would've had time to prepare the new season.

As per your logic, losing is losing and a manager should get fired after such. The time we lost to Roma, we didn't secure the league yet, nor the Copa del Ray. So applying what you said we should wait until the end of the season to judge QS, just like you had to wait for Valverde, isn't it? You always argue about trophies are more important than football and managers are getting paid to deliver results...right? Not sure why you even bother to watch football if all you care about is when the referee blows the final whistle. So STFU for now and come back when the season is over.

Criticisim towards the manager is valid when the fixtures are supposed to be relatively easy yet results and performances continue to indicate otherwise.

I actually liked what I saw from the team this game. It is a shame Setien didn't get a full pre-season to influence his ideas. It is also a shame that he has been f*cked by squad depth.

But even in these circumstances they are taking shape.

-The midfield movement backwards (Rakitic) and forward (de Jong) to beat the press from defence.
-de Jong, Ansu, Roberto occupying the forward space when Messi drops deep.
-Semedo and Roberto overlapping and understanding what to do when each is where.
-Ansu movement

These are ideas specifically intended for what Bilbao will bring. Over 90 minutes they worked.

Result wise our two losses are no worse than what Ernie achieved vs Valencia and Bilbao on MD1. But we are starting to take structure.

Sure, nothing wrong with criticizing the manager, and I did criticize QS a few times already despite him being hired mid-season, with a thin squad full of issues. However, narrow-context criticism to serve an agenda is not acceptable, especially when the newly hired manager needs all the public support to carry his plan. Like you said it's about results and PERFORMANCES, not one over another, just like Cruyff said "Quality without results is pointless. Results without quality is boring.". So far, I see we are improving performance-wise, creating so many chances which is the main tactical job of any manager and results will come. We have to wait and see!

Imo Barca was only good in the second half. In the first half there were many instances of Barca not being able to get out of the press and streches of times where Bilbao were the much better team. A better team would have already punished this mentally fragile team.

This mostly comes down to his insistence of playing Busi CDM and Fdj CAM , Arthur getting back to playing instead of Rakitic will also help massively in these situations.

Club management is responsible for our lack of depth at least as much as Valverde. They spent millions on the likes of Coutinho and Dembele and one of them was loaned after season and a half while second is injured 24/7. Just wait and see what will happen this summer when we try to sign Neymar again.

Now back to Valverde, that guy always wanted a small squad and for the club that competes on 3 fronts that's just wrong. You have to be seriously stupid for that, even more when you have an old squad. In that way you burn team to the ground and you cause frequent injuries. On the other side management apparently saw nothing wrong with that so now it is what it is.

We are generally better in 2nd halves. Opposition tires since they chase the ball and then we dominate easier. Been that that way since I can remember.

I actually thought we were mostly fine in the 1st half too and of all our midfielders, Rakitic was actually playing the best. Busquets made a number of uncharacteristic errors and Frenkie lacked quite a bit, both played better in the 2nd obviously. It's 3 weeks in under Setien, this will take time to take root and the signs are encouraging IMHO but we are absolutely lacking a driving player in midfield like say Alena. That, again, falls on Bartomeu

How do you propose the manager to rest players more with such a small squad?

None of the younger players have looked any good under his tenure either. So much for "promoting youth" as the many naive fans here have rambled on about.

Fati has looked good under him. Puig was given chances when possible. What other youth do you want him to promote?

Wouldn't surprise me either considering we had a record-low number of points when he came in.

Who cares that we created a nice chance through a good build up from the back using our midfielders to progress the ball and open up space wide? Athletic scored a random goal in the 93rd minute with their first and only attempt on our goal = This was a shit game from us, and comparable to all the other away losses we had under EV, if not even worse bruh

I agree

The whole thing is absurd.
If you try to say something positive about Valverde, it automatically means you're a huge fan of him and you hate Setien. If you try to say something negative about Valverde, you automatically hate him like the plague and you are a Setien fan. If you try to say something negative about Setien, automatically you're a fan of Valverde.
And so on and so forth....... what a kindergarten!....as if our problem would be the coach, like we have a fantastic set of players (this is a indisputable fact!), but unfortunately we are missing a coach with the skills to make them win the triplete and play in a divine way.

Some top users around here supported Valverde or at least weren't that critical or interested in bashing him. We have no problems with this group. It's with the obnoxious EV cult-following we have big issues with, for quite obvious reasons.

Balanced positions are still respected here by most. You don't really have to take a side, but if you take a side and pour one dumb comment after another you will get called out for.
