Use De Jong as the fucking DM ffs. This guy probably plans to use Busquets as the base of the midfield until he's 60.

A traffic cone would be more helpful than Rakitic but here we are in 2020 and this guy still doesn't warm the seats in the stands. He doesn't even warm the bench but actually plays against CL teams. Setien should get it through his skull that Rakitic is finished and he has been finished since 2017. To exhibit the same logic as brain dead fans(you know who you are), such as Rakitic is some defensive workhorse guru, is inexcusable from Setien.

So far he shows the same cowardice as Valverde when it comes to planning matches against tougher opponents. However, as opposed to the big nosed imbecile, he doesn't have a full squad at his disposal and doesn't have 2 years worth of coaching these has beens. Would still tell him to pack his bags in the summer.

I personally dont care about our distance covered, the one positive I take away from yesterday is that we generally looked like the better team (even if they had a few more chances). We looked quite comfortable when Arthur entered the pitch. The rest comes down to our tragic attack. I guess we will easily beat them at home and look a class apart (like vs Dortmund in group stages).

Not too optimistic about our chances to win the title, but maybe we get lucky.

Agree, Napoli at home is no joke. They beat Juve and Liverpool there this season.

Our attack was poor, sterile possession too. But rather that than be high pressed and dominated like away games under Valverde.

Tbh Napoli parked a massive bus. It's not easy to create chances in that.

But the lineup is all on him. Yeah busi gave the pre assists but it was still a bad choice.

I’m not so sure about that as you are guys. We are million times better at building from the back and breaking the press under Setien than we have ever been under EV.

We aren't, we are actually playing with fire with building from the back. Napoli could have really punished us for it. Better teams will do it with ease.
Neither our current defenders or midfielders are capable of that.

I agree with this. We had a mediocre performance imo but even so, the 2-3 chances Napoli had were from our individual errors (one from Firpo with that horrible touch, one from Busquets in the 2nd half). Napoli didn't have a single real chance that wasn't born from a gift from us. If we iron out the errors more, we will be better.

The problem is against top teams, the low movement, low work-rate and injuries in attack are causing us to not create many chances with the possession we have. So we use it in a more negative way. Which under current circumstances, would be a solid, pragmatic, plan actually, if we could just stop fucking up easy passes.

Napoli were absolutely idiots for parking the bus at their stadium.

We will beat Napoli with ease at Camp Nou but the next round if we actually draw Bayern or Liverpool we are going out.

There were some solid articles today in Croatian media about yesterday game, but not important now, i think those 2 images below show our entire problem, and you could find images like that throughout entire game:

All are standing, back to goal...there is no room for dribble, except through 4 players, whoever we bought or will buy won't help us in this situations. BUT, there is a space to make a run for...something every team is doing, vertical run through the lines would, if nothing, disrupt defensive lines.

There is more to that statistic then just a number..here you can view it:
https://www.uefa.com/newsfiles/ucl/2020/2027123_ts.pdf

We run more in the second half when possession has fallen a bit and we were chasing a goal. Also, majority of distance covered in football is not in some sprint but movement is slower tempo, and third Messi, that's 3km less in the beginnig.
So I don't think is down to old team or something, it's down to wrong statical style in which possession is main goal and fear of losing the ball.

We covered 115 km in this iconic win while Bayern covered 110 km.

https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/match/2015227--juventus-vs-barcelona/

We covered 112 km in the 2015 CL final.

This is DESPITE having Messi who even in those days averaged 8 km a game.

I would bet in our 08-11 days, we averaged anywhere from 110-120 km a game.

Basically, our senior players have gotten so complacent that collectively we're putting in 10-20 kms less than we used to.

Fucking lol. This IS the central problem after mid table coaching.

Wow that's massive difference. Same players almost.

Rest of the team got lazy/old.

And yet people are ripping at Messi alone for lack of running when Messi himself is old.

We don't need Messi running 10-12 km to succeed. Yes, it would be perfect if he ran more than his usual and he should. We can criticize him for that fairly. But we need everyone else - especially the midfield and other forwards - to be like Griezmann and put in an absolute shift. If that's done, we can still compete in this competition. Maybe not win it or certainly not be dominant as we once were, but compete.
