What I hope we'll see vs Bilbao tmmr

Defense---Vidal, Busi, Puig---Messi, Suarez, Fati (then, sub out players during the 50th-60th min.)

What we'll probably see

Defense---Vidal, Busi, Rakitic---Messi, Suarez, Griezmann (then, sub out players in the 75th-85th min.)

"I'm not concerned with the average age in our squad, I'm concerned with what we do on the pitch. Ideally, the older you are, the better you think and the better you play."

OK, if he really said that, now he has one legit words of wisdom to match Valverde..

But in our case our older group of players don't have the legs to match what they want to do.

They are all useful but not all of them need to be on the pitch at once like Seiten and Valverde are/were persisting with. Can a team function with at least Pique-Busi-Messi in the lineup? Certainly, but it's all about having players you can surround them with that have the abilities/athleticism and giving them bigger roles and not having to completely hamstring them so Busi-Pique-Messi can only thrive while the others are forced completely into being water carriers.

Pique if he can keep his head out of his own ass he really won't be that big of an issue. But guys like Busi, Messi, are a lot more delicate as they don't have the Mobility as they once had.

If that’s true no wonder we’re after Pjanic.

This gave me a chuckle this morning, it’s Sport reporting but surely they’re trolling:

Barca consider that Pjanić will be a fundamental player for their new sporting project. They believe that the arrival of a much more organised midfielder would go very well for the team and, in addition, will serve as a reference for the youth players. [sport]

How can “Pjanic” and “new sporting project” be in the same sentence.... he’s 30 ffs

One thing is certain, no one really knows what goes on behind the scenes with this Barca squad and front office. Setien came in with a totally different mindset, saying he would go back to playing the barca way and he would give more opportunities to youngsters. What he is saying now doesn't seem to me like he's saying truly what he thinks. Look at even the way we played vs Sevilla compared to Setien's first two games. It was basically EV footie all over again. It's all politics. My money is on Barto and maybe even the amigos telling him to shut the hell up and not change the status quo. It's why EV was the perfect coach for these set of players. EV let the boys do whatever they wanted, and in turn that made the players happy and Bartomeu happy.

There will be many articles and even books about this period of time in Barca once the front office and amigos are gone. There's just too much shady stuff going on that we don't know about. At the end of the day if the coach is going to be a cuck to Barto and Amigos, then it's time to end the generation and start over. There should be no reason for 3(3!!) coaching candidates to turn down a world renowned club like Barca. You won't ever hear something like that for any top team in any sport.

And what youth players will he be a reference for with Arthur gone? Raki, Busi and Vidal?

Nothing wrong with adding players in their prime but more like guys like Rakitic who was like 26 when we got him not dudes like Pjanic who is 30 years old and is already showing signs of decline.

There have been many articles already.

Setien realised fairly quickly he could not play the fast, pressing game with this squad and reverted back to EV style to go for results ahead of trying to implement style that wont work with the older players.

I have a problem with this approach in general. It's the main reason why I hated Valverde. We don't need managers who see the problems and just leave them be pretending they don't exist and lying to the fans in every press conference.

We need some who is bold wants to make a difference. Some who does not make compromises. Who would set up to improve the problems he sees in the team at all costs.

It's time to dump the whole lot of Pique, Busquets, Rakitic, Suarez, Alba and probably Roberto too. Leo should follow in their footsteps in two years. The aforementioned core was good enough to at least contend for and win the league for a while even if they didn't have what it took to deliver the CL. Now we have seen under two different managers they are incapable of anything more than 85 points in the league. EV did an alright job squeezing these complacent, over the hill lazy sods for a few more league titles. Can't ask for anything more really.

Now they're entering their mid-thirties and have shown they're past it in every major competition. Should move on from them and start rebuilding ASAP, but practically speaking we are in for a few more years of purgatory before we can slowly claw our way back up again. We should also avoid making any major signings in this period because the conditions are very unfavourable to any young bloke or superstar from another team we buy. The senior amigos will alienate them in the dressing room, cowardly managers will sit them on the bench in favour of has-been big names and they will likely flounder in the end only to be transferred away to another club for half their purchase price in a year or two.

I think we should start with Busi and Raki. Build new midfield. Alba still has some quality left, same as Pique and Suarez(super sub). But Busi, Raki and Vidal would be a good start.

If we can change those guys in two years time, I think that would be great. Two of them need to leave after this season though.

Doubt we'll find a better LB on the market today than Alba, but he's 31 and heavily reliant on pace. That can go at anytime then we'll be left with a one-trick pony incapable of performing his one trick. Pique and Suarez would be good super-subs, but I very much doubt those lads will simply accept being moved to the bench without throwing their toys out the pram and ruining the squad's morale. Busquets should have been gone years ago, but will leave only when he chooses to. When you listen to some of the prominent players and staff at the club speak about him it's clear they view him in the same light as Messi. Only Rakitic will likely be gone this summer. The rest will continue their vacation at the club for 2-3 more years.

It's not that some of these players don't have anything left to offer, but are just too arrogant, complacent etc. that getting rid of them (and their massive wages) altogether is the best option. Not to mention the fact they are tactical liabilities due to how slow, lazy and immobile they are. They are not suited for today's high intensity game anymore. Each one of them were once healthy cells that have transformed into malignant tumours in recent years. You cannot heal the club without cutting all of them off. The treatment will hurt, but it's badly needed.
