Rafael Márquez

I was laughing my ass off when he got overpowered by Hleb.

That's just it. Rafa makes this mistake alot, when somebody kicks a long ball and he tries to block out the stiker with his back. Think back to the first leg vs Chelsea when Drogba almost scored, and when I think Aguero(or forlan) scored last year in the Calderon. He really needs to practice this alot. Either kick the ball out, or pass it right. I really do hope the best for Marquez, because here and there he shows a spurt of the skills that made him a starter for Barca last year and years before.

I think the biggest reason for Rafa's inconsistency after the first CL is as skilled as he is, he also tries to be a tough guy and doesn't seem to want to admit that he has no leg strength anymore.

He's been good recently but the haters deserve their ammo, that being said he's worth keeping around just to kick the shit out of cunts like Canales even if he shouldn't be trusted in big games.

I still think Marquez should have started. Not because I can see that we tied 2-2, but because Puyol and Milito don't work well together. They play almost the same style of defence, and barca needs an attacking defender like Pique or Marquez to go together with Puyol or Milito. Pique and Marquez play more on top to attack and cut off passes, and Puyol and Milito stay down to clean up the dirty work.

I 100% agree that Puyol and Milito are pretty much the exact same defenders. However, they're definitely not the clean-up crew (aka El Libero, Sweeper, etc.). That's what Marquez and Pique do, while at the same time lead the attack from the back. Puyol and Milito are the people that cut off the passes (Stopper-ish).

You're right. That's why they call him the kaiser, after Beckenbauer. He really needs to step it up though, for Barca's sake, and Mexico's. I think the undeserved yellow vs. Stuttgart really threw off his game and just lost concentration. His opportunity to play in the champions can come again at any time, since Pique got a yellow vs. Stuttgart, and hopefully Puyol doesn't lose focus after his game against Almeria.

Every season we have won the league since Laporta took over Marquez was an important factor for at least half the season. While we have shown we can win without him, in these past few seasons despite bringing in plenty of CBs, only Pique has been able to properly replace Rafa.

Marquez - It's not that they didn't respect their opposition, it's just that Lyon have been simply better on the field

Marquee unleashing the mind games of his!! Make them lose against Valladolid man :)
