I know that Pep is an exception to the rule Gio, but that doesn't mean that you should disregard what these types of managers have to offer. my management 101 idea is not a failure. the idea is to get a manager who is either successful and well respected in the footballing circle (Mourinho, Ancelotti, Hiddink, Capello) or a manager who is well respected within the club and knows the club inside/out. any idiot would have been able to say that Maradona would have been able to fail, and not just because you hate him. The jury is still out on Leonardo, because the Milan team from last year was terrible. Van Basten failed, so did Michel and Koeman, so did Roy Keane, jury still out on Hugo Sanchez (but depending how Almeria finish doesn't he deserve consideration?). My point is Gio, that Manu was not the best available choice for the job. you may not like Carlo or Mourinho, but at least they would have commanded the respect of the players. You are correct in saying that a RMadrid-version of Pep would have it's risks, but what coaching choice does not have it's risks? Imagine if Valdano hires an ex-Madrid legend who Perez likes? Who cares if he has slim-to-none managerial experience? Stability comes from the top down. President - Sporting Director - Manager all have to see eye-to-eye and all have to present a united front publicly and in front of the staff/players. That's another point to management 101. You can't have success on the pitch if there is no stability in the front office. that's how it is with any team in any sport on any level. that's what's missing here. if Manu never had Perez's support he shouldn't have been hired. If he was never going to get the opportunities to work out his tactics he never should have been hired. If Valdano and Perez were going to buy players and have a manager come in and fit a hodgepodge type formation in, then they should have bought players with a manager's specific system in mind. It was like the right hand (manager) didn't know what the left hand (management) was doing. Management 101.

The office is fine this time Irv they leave him to screw up with the 4-2-2-2 .. again u missed the point about Carlo & Jose.. one is a presidential puppet and the other still fail tactically in Europe and in Serie A is under a lot of pressure.
face it apart from his domestic success in Chelsea & Inter Mourinho was never able to reach anywhere near what he did with Porto in Europe
In Europe he is on par with Pellegrini the later have an advantage , his teams play well (or should be despite the failure )
Maybe I'm old school, but I've always belived that matches are controlled and won from the midfield - yours doesn't exist. There's a big gap between your DMs and the rest of your midfield - no harmony. And on top of that your 2 fullbacks are very attack minded (+ your left side can't defend for shit, makes Alves look like a "Ballon d'Or" winning defender). You guys have 3 of the best DMs but no playmaker (Xabi has sucked so far and I think he will continue to suck). And Granero is not doing a good job either, he's mediocre at best.

It's not old school it's modern school as well.. agree if u don't control the midfield u don't control /win games.. Real failed to do that this season

Gio, I think it`s a bit unfair to dis Mourinho based on his European achievements. Even then, he won that CL with Porto and not many can boast with a CL trophy and even fewer with a relatively "outsider" team. If you are to apply such a high standard you won`t find 3 active managers out there that would fit your criteria.

if they want to win they have to get mourinho-he'll discipline the players well, just look at how he gelled the chelsea squad. the football won't be beautiful, it will be mainly individual brilliance rather than flowing team moves, but maybe that will suit madrid.

I'm not dissing him but i'm not a big fan of his tactics/game plan and my idea is he failed to achieve the same feature or at least reach a final with both Chelsea & Inter so based on what he is better then Manu ?

They looked for Wenger as a first choice a man who can't boost any European pedigree but his teams play good sexy football and that's the criteria they were looking for.
a man like Mourinho will drive Madrid fans crazy and push the hate limit to the top with his attitude antics the same way he is hated in Serie A by almost everyone , he is definitely not the man to take over Real

Perez is the problem. He is such a control freak that he won't hire the kind of manager that you need, one that will have the control and respect of his players. He tried to hire Wenger but he refused because he would not get the control he wanted.

Mourinho's Chelsea lost to Liverpool (European Champions), Frank's FCB (European Champions), Liverpool again in the semi finals. I mean ... that's way better than anything Manu and Arsene has done. and then Roman stabbed Mourinho in the back. The Inter team Mourinho inherited was suffering from Ibrah-dependienca and can hardly have been considered favourites. But he's not really in to this Inter team, he's either waiting for RMadrid to call his number, or Sir Alex/Rafa to retire/get fired. And Liverpool just beat ManU, so Rafa goes nowhere. Listen, I'm not saying Manu is a poor coach, he's just a poor choice for what has to be done. And just like Sunny said:

Perez refuses to share the spotlight. He refuses to let his ego out of the equation. whether or not Ancelotti is a yes man, whether or not you feel Mourinho is not the best choice, for the way RMadrid is designed, they were the two best options. If Perez - Valdano - Ancelotti/Mourinho formed a united triumvirate all the shit that is going on behind scenes disappears and RMadrid is a much more dangerous team.

but what am I complaining for, I love that Perez has not changed. This is going to end horribly, and so long as Sandro doesn't turn out to be a Manchurian Candidate, we're on easy street until Perez gets unceremoniously kicked out.

I'm sorry but anyone who thinks Laudrup still cares about Barca is in denial, when you cross that line you burn a bridge that can never be replaced. I know he's a much more likeable man than Schuster or Figo, and he achieved more for a longer period of time at Barca than Madrid, but we have to accept that he's tainted and the fact that he coached Getafe is just more proof he's in Madrid's orbit and not Barca's. If anything Figo has shown more regret about his switch to the darkside than Laudrup.

You should have persuaded Hugo Sanchez. Judging the match they are playing against Valencia, he's doing great with tactics etc.
