Its not a case of wanting Benzema, hamzah, its the money. Milan sold Kaka´ to bring the debt level way down and also at the same time reduce costs at the club, such as agreeing wage drops for many of the key players and cutting out some of the dead wood. Galliani actually did a good job, is even likely to get Ronaldinho to take a considerable wage drop, (verbally agreed). However its all been pretty much undone now as some reports are claiming our revenue this year is down 20/25%, largely due to the recession - less fans buying shirts, tickets etc. The result is this summer more cash needs to be found, and i´m affraid our most valuable asset is Pato.
On the Milan forum now its the usual crap about Milan is too big to be selling its best players. But i´m more pragmatic I like to think. I´d rather lose 1 or 2 now and secure the clubs future before we have a serious problem. Rather that than a disaster like Fiorentina, Parma, Lazio etc which topples the club, and all its stars in one go.
Well as great a player as he looks like becoming, I don´t see him caring about much more than where the most money is to be gained. I don´t think he is one for much sentimentality.
Story in Italian press today is that Pato will be sold this summer, with Chelsea and Madrid favourites to sign him. They quote Madrid as prepared to pay 50M € + Benzema. What have you guys heard? I would be happy with that cash, just keep Benzema, or through in Drenthe instead.
Chelsea will offer 45M € + Ivanovic according to same reports.
Would that not put Benzema value at 30M though? I think after this year his value has to have dropped more. But like I say I don´t want him anyway, would rather have cash and with his wages I doubt Milan would opt for him either.
Just a little correction: Magath didnt win the league with Stuttgart, he was runner-up, which was still an enormous achievement with a veary young team that was almost relegated the year before.i think the perfect coach for real madrid would be a spanish felix magath. to me, he's easily the best coach in germany. he won the league with stuttgart, bayern, !!!wolfburg!!! and is now in his first year at schalke within just 2 points of the leading bayern. it's really amazing what he does with the little source he's got.
