The new coach of Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho, has singled out the areas of the team he feels needs strengthening. The former Inter tactician has wasted no time in assessing his squad as he begins his newly-signed four-year contract at the Real Madrid.
One of the main areas he wants to strengthen is the full-back position, despite the La Liga runners-up spending £6 million on Liverpool’s Alvaro Arbeloa on a five-year-deal last season.
"Real have a right-back that I like very much in Sergio Ramos," Mourinho told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. "But in my way of thinking, I believe he can be better as a central defender so we might need a right-back. I also would like to have an alternative left-back to Marcelo. Marcelo has his characteristics but Real needs a balanced squad, different players for each position. I would like a left-back that has different characteristics to Marcelo."

Mourinho appears to be after a more box-to-box midfielder, as opposed to the less versatile midfielders already under contract at the Bernabeu.
"The midfield line is very important," Mourinho said. "It's difficult to find a complete player in central midfield. You have less players box to box. You have more No. 10's and defensive midfielders. But it's very difficult to find a player in midfield right now that is complete."
