I think you misunderstood Ward

he is saying that CR is way better than Higuain and i agree with him tbh
Higuain is awesome but Cristiano is on a different level for now

Ah okay, I thought he thought I was being sarcastic with the "like he should" comment... forgot he was a CR fan :p

I should also clarify that I meant outshine in terms of goalscoring, CR is a better all around player, but I think Higuain will be better upfront this season. I think CR will be more of an assister while Higuain racks up the goals. CR will still score 20+ of course but I don't think that will be his primary purpose like it will be for Higuain.

Real's move for Inter defender Maicon collapses

Soccernet

Real Madrid's transfer consultant Ernesto Bronzetti claims the club's pursuit of Inter Milan defender Maicon is "definitively over".

It was reported on Sunday evening that Inter president Massimo Moratti had taken the Brazil international off the market after Real, coached by former Inter boss Jose Mourinho, failed to secure a deal for Maicon.

A valuation of €28 million for a 29-year-old defender was deemed excessive by Real president Florentino Perez and Bronzetti believes a deal was never likely, despite Mourinho's interest in the player.

"I speak with President Florentino Perez every day, but after a price-tag that the club considered out of proportion with Maicon's age, there was no counter-offer," Bronzetti told Sky Sport Italia.

"It is true that there was a meeting between Maicon's agent and Jorge Valdano around a week ago and another request, which Real considered a little excessive. The truth is that Perez had already put the idea of getting Maicon out of his head a few weeks ago.

"I don't consider Inter taking him off the market to be a strategic move, as there were no clubs willing to sign him at that price anyway. They probably were smart in setting the bar so high, as they never did want to sell the player.

"The Maicon transfer to Madrid is definitively over. They will focus on other players who are not in Serie A."

Inter captain Javier Zanetti had earlier stated he hoped that the Treble winners could retain the services of Maicon for the coming season.

"Maicon is the best full back that we have," Zanetti said. "In fact, he's the best full back in the world. It is very important he stays with us."

lol, wat a waste of spending if they got maicon, like you have sergio ramos who is top 5 in the world and you want to replace him

How did he do vs Barca?
Valencia is an average team, probably the weakest defense in Liga.
he played crap in most of the big games. Lyon game didn't help either.

28 million is excessive for Maicon but 80 million isn't for Ronaldo...?

Anyway, great news.

That keeps coming up and it surprises me. It is, and just because it is, it does not make it right for us to continue on that road. Not that we wanted but Calderon put the club in a tricky situation.

on the one hand, 28m for maicon is excessive given his age.

on the other hand reial have paid big money for players approaching 30 before.

on the third hand reial really could use maicon as it would allow ramos to become the world-class CB he should be rather than the very very good RB he currently is. plus maicon is a baller and would make you much better as an attacking force while also solidifying you defensively (because ramos is a titan at CB).

all in all I think moving for maicon, even for an inflated price, would have been worth it.

but you can understand the trepidation on perez's part, especially since he bet the farm on three horses last year and two of them turned up lame.

Xabi and Kaka?

I think one turned up well, Xabi is getting there and Kaka has been kaka.

I would like someone to list all the players that moved to Madrid since Perez took charge and their prices.
