Records to beat - Leo Messi

Great thread Khaled.:pep:

Müller "only" scored 525 goals for Bayern if we only include first team appearances. Indeed he scored 41 goals for the B team but those should not be included in the official count. If so then all the goals scored by Messi for the Barca B and C teams should be included as well.

Messi needs to score 274 goals more to beat Müllers record for Bayern.

Let us just say that he will do exactly that in the next 5-6 seasons. To do so Messi need to score about 50 goals each season. If he stays healthy then I don't see why he should not be able to do that.

Not sure Khaled. I used the English Wikipedia and the German version and both say that Müller scored 525 goals for Bayern's first team.

Okay thanks :) anyway, we have to wait at least 5-6 years to see that happen... Until that happens, we have enough time :p to get the accurate number of official goals scored by Gerd Muller for Bayern's 1st team, but it has to be between 521 and 532 official goals.

I think if he goes on like this, he will smash them all..

I am afraid of only one record: Goals in all official and unofficial games ever.
I think that Pele leads there with around 1.200 goals, which is almost impossible - even for messi - to break..

Your right he wont break that record but back then players used to play as much friendlies as official games. Also Pele is only fourth all time when you include friendlies. Bican and Muller had over 1400.

Khaled any chance you could update this page? Im obsessed with Messi and his statistics and he is about to hit 300 goals for club and country currently on 299.

Personally I think he could one day be the all time top goalscorer officially although some of you reckon he wont even break 500.

He currently has 299 goals for club plus NT. He could easily hit 80 plus again this season which would leave him on around 360. Players tend to peak at around age 27 so theres no reason he could not score around 70 plus for the next two season's.

Then for his seasons aged 28, 29 and 30 he may scored around 40 a season for club plus NT and perhaps 30 a season for 31 and 32 and maybe 20 aged 33 and 34 leaving him on roughly 720. Then he could do a Romario and head to South America until he's 40 where he could score 20 a season against weaker opponents leaving him on about 840 goals when he retires.... or maybe im just insane:lol:

Barring any serious injury, I think it is almost a given that he will be the first player in la liga history to score 300+ goals. I also believe he will at some point reach the 100 goals mark in the UEFA Champions League. Then he might reach 50 goals in the Spanish Cup if he plays that tournament regularly. So there you have 450 goals, possibly he could add another 50 in the league but that is assuming he will continue at Barcelona until he's 35-36 at least. One thing is sure though, he is not going to keep scoring 30+ goals in the league for the next 5-6 years.

There will be injuries and goal droughts that will push the less patient to even question his position in the starting eleven. What he's going through right now won't go on for ever. I do think people should be a bit more conservative speculating about Messi's future, the numbers I've seen some people throwing around are just ridiculous, 6-700 goals is just to unrealistic, that imply he will score more than a goal per game for the rest of his career, it is not going to happened.

The Pele argument that he scored 1200 something goals is simply pointless. He played in a state league where his Santos steamrolled some of the lesser teams, we're talking his team scoring up to 10 goals in some games. For example, in 1958 his Santos team scored 143 goals in 38 games and in 1959 they scored 155 in 41 games, these are numbers you only see in the ladies leagues these days.

Some examples of the heavy competition Pele had to face:

19/11/1959- Santos 12 x 1 Portuguesa Santista
21/11/1964- Santos 11 x 0 Botafogo
11/09/1958- Santos 10 x 0 Nacional
06/09/1961- Santos 10 x 1 Juventus

and numerous more where they scored 7,8 and 9 goals.

600 isnt unrealistic. He's only 25 so he may not have even peaked yet. 600 is only doubling his total number. It took him 8 years to hit roughly 300. He could play football for the next 13 plus so I think 700 plus is very feasible.
