Valverde will have to find a way to play possession based attacking play. It's up to him how he will do that, the specifics of the style can be tweaked and adjusted, but it is not up to him whether he will play attacking football or not. Nor he can do what he wants without respecting the brand of football that we, as a sporting entity, want to stand for.

The problem comes when fans think 4-2-3-1 is a defensive formation with a parked bus

Not about that at all. He is forced to play in a certain way at Barca. We are not Bilbao. You don't come at Barca and play exactly how you want. You have a certain culture to respect, and a certain way you have to play. If he doesn't respect that he will be gone very fast.

We have no idea what is in the mind of the new coach,Silva is far from a perfect player. Unlikely to see him as a future ballon winner. those are the kind of players you don't pass on if the chance present itself. Is he a great talent? Absolutly,I think I myself at some point wanted him too.
Our culture has been to play entertaining football, some people have mixed that with the Pep culture which isn't true.
Roberto (the guy we are discussing) job is to support the coach, and we could play an entertaining football without Silva and with different type of players too.
We have played a super entertaining football (considered our best football in ages) with Deco,Van Bommel and Edmilson as our midfield.

So will you support the club trying to sign Mbappe if he's available next year? A potential future Balon D'Or winner if he has yet another fantastic season.

Or will you still argue that he won't fit in, might not be what the coach want or need, etc.

Come on Khaled, the players you don't pass on are close to World Class or absolute World Class players that suit your team and the way it plays football. If we waited for a Balon D'or winner to go after a player then we would end up passing on many great players while signing average ones.

What kind of system is it that Mbappe won't fit?

Well, that is a well played question from you
If a chance presented itself, yes for sure. But I won't cry out loud if we didn't sign him either because of a mammoth offer from other clubs while the team struggling in other areas. Or we decided to go for other players like Dybala or Dembele for example. Difference between "support" and being critical is a key in such discussion

For the record @khaled_a_d

I'm not even that mad we didn't get Bernardo Silva, but it is obvious that we need to rejuvenate our midfield anyway and with Deulofeu probably coming back, I don't see us signing another RW with Aleix also set to stay at the moment.

If Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Seri all leave for other teams and we decide eventually that we need players like them, then what? I think we'll sign none or panic into paying a close to WR fee for Coutinho.

My problem is the clear lack of strategy we've shown under this board. We hesitated signing Marquinhos, but a season later did our best to pull him off from PSG. Same with Verratti.

I think this board after Rosell removal has put most of the faith in the sporting department.we got good results even with many mistakes in 2014,in 2015 they made a mistake of handling the transfers to a 4 team people that was mostly business people and they just did what Lucho asked. Last year I think Roberto had more strategy IMO
He tried to get this team younger, added much needed depth, which to some extent backfired early on due to too much change on the bench, He tried to add many quality players but MSN kind of made it difficult.
He clearly risked too much not to sign a RB,probably because of Lucho.
I would give the guy the benefit of the doubt this summer, this year the team seam more open for change than last couple of years tbh and we might not get so much no as got last summer.
I am not saying we are great, but I think this year could be the best year to judge the board, choosing the coach, the players etc. Could have just strike gold with Lucho and Suarez but could prove they are ready to make changes for the future.
Lots of variables are there, I am just saying no need to panic or judge our SD based on player X going to club Y in May.

Don't think there's anything to it.

Btw. I remember in Cruyff's last season when young Jordi was playing alongside De la Pena and Figo and how commentator was excited at those young prospects. Only Figo really made it, shame about the other two.

tbf they had a career that normally a football player would be proud of,De La Pena was always fun to watch and Crujif was in one of the all time greatest Euopean finals back in 2001

Normal footballer probably but not those guys who were expected to take on the world. They haven't lived up to high expectations. Not even close.

Hype around De la Pena is probably among top 3 I've ever seen for a Barca player. Cruyff barely contributed to United and was always an average player.
