Jordi Cruyff's career would always be a disappointment anyway just based on whose son he is. Expectations were just too high and unrealistic like they always are when it comes to sons of great footballers.

I was joking about Jordi replacing Robert and since we are discussing the Dutchman maybe it would be a good idea to start a thread here for the guy. (I couldn't find any yesterday)

Jordi was a good player, but his father's legacy really never let him go, he couldn't develop under such pressure and expectations. I believe hardly anyone can. His best displays as a footballer were with Alaves in 2000/01 UEFA Cup, scoring the qualifying goal against Inter Milan and equalising for 4-4 vs. Liverpool in the final.

As for now he is doing great job in Israel, being the sporting director of the Maccabi Tel Aviv since 2012. There was a moment this year when he took the manager position of the club, went to win 8 out 9 games and then decided to step away and return to his former position.

He was nobody when he was offered the job and he is still nobody to me and will be nobody forever as it seems. Incompetent and unknown, his only ace in the hole being the director of football at the mighty F.C. Barcelona, or let's admit it the club where Lionel Messi plays. That's the main transfer motivation for most players on the planet, it's not Cruyff, nor it's the defunct tiki-taka Pep style. Not to mention Real Madrid's recent triumphs have already started to obscure Barca's legacy.

Read on Sport Robert is going to watch the Spain vs Colombia match, and the two he's there to watch are both Yerry Mina and Davinson.

Well yeah. Ideally the position of sports director should be for club legends and people with contacts. Robert is neither.
At least he had a similar job in Valencia while Txiki and Zubi had no credentials but either way this position is still for a puppet of presidents.

I am not optimistic but I do think we should at least wait and see how he delivers this summer.

Don't think that Robert is that bad. His (our) scouting system seems to be quite good. Last year we were after signing Dembele and Davinson, but both have chosen smaller clubs mainly because they were afraid of playing too less. Now they've become targets for many big clubs and it might help us in negotiations that we were already after them before they became "famous" in Europe. It's a pity that they will cost much more than they would've last year, but you can't do anything about it. (Young) players have their own interests and I can understand that they are afraid of playing too less which would hurt their development.

Umtiti was a steal too for that price. We were scouting him since 2011 and have 27 scouting reports about him.
You won't find a better back-up than Digne in that age for the price we've signed him.
Every club would have bought back Denis with the option we had after his rise in market value.
Gomes and Paco were perspective signings (as he said) and you can't really rate these signings after their first year.
Last summer's plan was to rejuvenate our aging squad and he did it.

Aleix Vidal was a classic election-signing.
Arda was Luchos wish so I can't really blame Robert for it. We won the treble before and every sporting director would try to fulfill the wish of the coach after the success we had with him.

Bartomeu is supposedly giving him more power, so whatever happens this summer is on this guy.

Smart play because if he fucks up, he can sack him and claim he gave him full authority to do whatever he want.

Maybe we can't sign anyone before deal with Rakuten kicks in and/or we sell someone.
Our wage bill is an issue.

Like last year, it might happen that we will only sign or announce players after 1st July to put them in the next year's books, but as of now, there's not much happening either in local Barcelona media or foreign media when it comes to the club being close to signing a player.

At least we can get rid of the deadweight though. Especially the likes of Arda.
