Of the Ajax talents i rate De Ligt and De Jong higher than Kluivert.
Both of those are also players that we need more.

I hope we sign him, he looks very poised for his age.

As for Barcelona buying Brazilians being a failure, let me teach these millenials about Ronaldo R9, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Alves, Neymar lmao. Shut the fuck up when mentioning Brazilian players for us, they are overwhelmingly a success. Sure, we gambled on some cheap ones like Keirrison or Douglas but they cost 10m at most. Just like we gambled on cheap dutch, bielorussian, italian players and gambles are almost always failures.

For me Justin doesn't have that wow factor in the vein of the likes of Dembele and Mbappe had at his age. He is still talented no doubt but not someone who a big team should spend the big bucks on and instantly fast track to the first team with a big role. He needs a few years to develop before any big team considers him.

Agreed. But if we can get JK for around 20M I think it's worth the risk too.

From all the players you mentioned only Neymar was brought directly from Brazil, others have played at least one if not more good/great seasons in good European clubs and odds they would succeed at Barça were higher.

I'm against spending big money on Kluivert as well but he only has a year on his contract and according to some rumours Ajax will sell for 15-20M. That's a market opportunity we could use (Of course only if he'd accept a loan for a season or two which I don't think he would so this debate is probably pointless.) We almost never look for players with expiring contracts who we could get cheaper. Instead we're usually trying to buy the ones who have recently signed 5 years contracts so negotiating power is all on their clubs (like it happened with Coutinho and Dembele) unless these players have buy out clauses.

1. I don't like loaning players back exclusively to Ajax. My point was that Kluivert is not ready for Barça and it would be better for him to keep developing at Ajax for another year or two but we could also loan him to another club if he'd agree with that.

2. Neymar was the best player in Brazil for 2 or 3 years when we've bought him, it's hard to compare him to Rodrygo who hasn't done anything yet in his career.

3. IIRC we've had a debate about Raiola in the past and I've said to you I dislike him so I obviously don't like the fact that he's JK's agent. And it's probably also the reason why we won't go after him. That said, Patrick Kluivert was my favourite player back in the days and one of the reasons why I started supporting Barça so I'm probably biased here as I'd like to see Justin also play for us some day but as said above I don't think he's ready for that yet. And you are right he's overhyped (but so are most young talents) and maybe he'll never be good enough but if we're looking for future players I would still rather risk with him if we can get him for probably half of the Rodrygo's price. But right now I think we should focus on our immediate needs (players that will help us next season) and if there will be some money left we can then go securing future transfers like Rodrygo later in the summer or even during the next season.

The point is, with those kids it isn't a comparison. You get the one who you think is special, there is dozens of kid out there that is hyped as the next big thing and many clubs fall for the hype.
Is the club scouting department think Rodrygo is the next great think he is special? you go for him, if it is JK you go for him. But you don't say I would prefer the kid from Ajax since it is an opportunity, it shouldn't be based on that IMHO
Loved Kluivert a lot back in the day, but don't want it to be another Jordi Cruyff situation

He showed some qualities indeed, but Santos are playing against the worst braziliam team in the league.

Scored against some teams in Sao Paulo this year too; including Palmeiras that is the general leader of Libertadores.

Compare the performance of a 17 years old Rodrygo Goes against Palmeiras to any Boca Junior attacking player, including Tevez and Pavon, against the same Palmeiras for example.

He scored against Nacional Uruguay in the Libertadores too.

Also, different from other young players like Vinicius Junior who one day looks like Ronaldo Nazario and in the next game can't complete a pass, Rodrygo Goes always play well despite Santos be a pathetic team.

Barca will not sign any new player arriving anyway. Dembele is a U-21. Coutinho is young too.

So both Segura and our CEO went to Brazil for nothing?

Scooping up and hording talent again, huh?

I just hope this one will not turn out to be like the Asensio case where we were stingy and counting pennies only to lose out to Real Madrid in the end.

This club is so indecisive.

As far as I know, Santos won't negotiate with us. So we can pay 50 m or leave it for someone else to pay the sum.

We already bought Arthur for 40.
If we buy Rodrygo for 50, that is possibly 90m thrown on a lottery.

For 90m, we can buy Griezmamn or Thiago.
Actually, a proven world class players, ready to play and win right away.

Rodrygo, Pavon.
With that logic, we could go out and buy 3-4 young unproven kids each summer.

Or... We could just buy Salah for that money.
I would personally rather bet on Salah than on Rodrygo, Pavon and a random new 3rd kid.

But let's blame the stupid board for not buying every single unproven overpriced kid out there.

Certainly not all of them will turn out good but some will. If you don't even buy lottery at all you will never hit the jackpot.

And no, you can't buy the Griezmann's, Thiago's and Salah's out there for that kind of money, EVEN IF they are available.
