Maybe its cause he isn't using all his energy to carry the team now

He was looking visibly tired in the first half, second half he got his head down and was great.

Got a feeling Messi is gonna get his head down and work hard to give us all one last hurrah for one season or two.

We're only two games in but he needed to see the light without his best amigos. Probably tired of empty words after the Setien fiasco. Luckily the team has shown it emphatically in the opening two games.

If we continue like this with the likes of Coutinho taking up a big attacking responsibiity (and more weight off Messi shoulders) the better Messi will be as he realise booting Suarez/Vidal and giving authority to K-Dawg really was best for business.

People are getting carried away...it's still early to assume anything. But in these first two matches, the team did play with more energy and conviction. But we shouldn't start Griezzman and Busquets. They are the worse players in our starting eleven.

i'd say this improvement is about 60% mentality, 35% simply putting more offensive players on the pitch at the same time and 5% systemic tactics.

You should see Setien's thread after his first game or two: "omg it's so different, we actually attacked, so different from valverde, omg omfg omg!" Getting carried away is a staple of this forum.

tbh in Setien's first game we actually played well according to the "Barca-standard", there were triangles and one-touch passing. But it was due to the new manager bounce, of course. Once or twice in a year, we had such games under EV too.

Formation and tactics playing a big part imo. That’s why technically it should continue. Instead of walking Messi and slow Suarez up front we’ve got Messi walking most of the time, BUT Griezmann, Coutinho and Fati all moving constantly on and off the ball.

For me personally, Setien was shit from the day 1.
He played an outdated copy of Cruijff's Dream Team from early 90s.
There wasn't a single moment when I was impressed by Setien's football.

On the other hand, Koeman made some changes.
4231 for example.
We don't have that granny-slow build up anymore.
We play riskier.
He told players that they are able to pass to other teammates also, not only to Messi.
He got rid of Suarez.
Lenglet is playing fast long balls to our attackers, not every action has to be: Cbs to Busi-Arthur and then they dwell on the ball for 20 seconds, resist press and finally get the ball near the opponent's box after 30 seconds and 48 sideway passes.

Anyway, unrelated to this post, I wanted to post some of Koeman's goals when he was a player.
He is probably the highest scoring CB of history.
I remember when I was a kid and started to watch Barca in the early 90s, my two favorite players were:
1. Stoichkov, because he was dribbling and scoring goals and kids always love those type of players
2. and Koeman. There was something special about him. Defending, playmaking from the back, scoring those crazy long range goals all the time.
Plus, back then, I always remember how I was scared of Koeman.
Something like: I would never mess with him. If I could, I would troll all Barca's players, but never Koeman. He would kick my ass after 5 seconds

His goals :worthy:

Imagine if he could teach Coutinho, Fati and our guys his shooting technique, lol.

Only his first game when Barca completed like 1000 passes and many thought tiki taka is back. Then struggled against Division 2 opponent in Copa del rey. No one praised him since then (except serghei).

Both Fati and Coutinho have good finishing technique.

Didn't we barely won 1:0 after the opponent's team got red carded in the 2nd half?

We were pure, slow motion shit even then.
With that stupid, outdated Arthur-Busi press resistant granny build up when we want to tikitaka the ball from our box to the opponent's box instead of hurl the ball forward here and there or try a counter whenever it's possible.

Only issue I have with Koeman now is that he has to stop starting Griezmann and Busquets. Maybe as a sub.

Yea, he's a guy that exudes strong character and determination. Not the pushover kind. Probably high in stubbornness though, these type of folk are like this.

I like him quite a lot though. It's hard not to like this guy right now.
