Ronald Koeman

Compare this games with similar one at San Mames under Ernie, and then you see how day and night the comparison is.
Under Ernie, we would be pretty crap in circulating the ball, pressing high, and creating chances, and above all, after conceding an early goal like today,
we would sulk and not be brave enough to fight back.

Enough with criticism against Koeman.
He has improved this team by miles

Barca were changing formation most of match.

Was anything from 442, 433, 4231 and 451 when Messi resting.

Not much different from what have been doing bar that 352.

Exactly. 433-shift argument has fans jumping the gun saying how they were always right Koeman wrong. Chart that was posted before shows Barca is one of the teams to create the most chances quantitatively and qualitatively. Team was playing with a better focus today and Messi regaining form.

I would support him once he drops nonmerit-based behavior. Players selection should be judged solely by their efforts, skills, abilities, and performance on the pitch.

While playing more young players than Pep did and dropping/subbing players due to form or performance more so than has happened in years.

Don't think he's a bad manager, think his emphasis on form is starting to show. He brings some nice additions to the table, too.

Seems to me his biggest problem is in game management. Often takes long to adjust things and subs usually don't work out as intended. Some of it due to players not being at the level needed, but there's more. For instance, took out Dembele and Dest, which isn't a problem in itself, but brought in Mingueza and Martin thus losing all the width and letting them press us into our own half down the right side with little to no risk.

Somebody brought it up, but is possible he took off Dembele to protect him from Raul Garcia? Not to invoke other injury?

This 4-3-3 looked good. Pedri and Griezmann to the left and Frenkie, Dembele to the right.

At the start of the game it looked like a 4-3-1-2 with Frenchies at the top.

The mobility of Pedri and Frenkie enable the frenchmen to cut inside, especially Pedri was very Iniesta-like on the left side, which pushed Griezmann to play as a CF.

This is probably the formation to go with. Dembele is a different player to the right. Griezmann's position is the one that can be alternated between him, Braithwaite and Ansu.

He most likely took out Dest and Dembele as Bilbao were targetting that side of park and getting a bit of joy from it and probably to protect Dembeles legs a bit.

Those changes made sense.

Van Dijk loved him at Soton for same reasons. Tough on him but demanded and got the best out if him. Helped turn him from basically a lazy over confident player at Celtic to best in world.

It is the type of coach Koeman is and tells it straight.

A lot of top players have reacted to it and that needs to be taken into account when pulling up interviews of nobodies from Everton or nut cases like Joaquin at Valencia.

This game subs were on point, but what i dont like is timing. We were in downfall for like 10 minutes or more, and he should be able to see that. When your team is playing great, and then suddenly you see that team is starting to lose control, then its the time to make those subs.

1. While we have momentum, and other players are performing well, and you spot a weak link in tired dest, sub him off so the other can conserve energy not spending it while trying to cover the cracks. From one tired player, you possibly get 2,3 more.

2. Players needs confidence around them, and if those subs come on while team confidence is still at their high level, there is a greater chance that sub would perform at better/greater level. Possibly with more fresh legs can contribute a lot more while not shaky.

3. Dembele sub should be made right after the last Messi goal. Game is 90% won, and you have a player that history tells is injury prone, that came back after injury not so long ago, that is young and your achievements for this season pretty much rely if he stays injury free and reaches his season peak in bussiness time of the season. Manage his minutes, let the hunger grows in dembouz.

3. Fucking Busi. If you need to play him, please sub him off at the hour mark. The best would be not playing him at all, but damn
