Ronald Koeman

The same man who accused Laporta of leaking information gave away details about Koeman?s medical history to the press as well. In addition, Koeman is earning 8m per season, I believe. He is hardly doing pro Bono work at Barca.

Sure, (not sure on the 8mil thing) granted he does get compensated a more than fair amount. I don?t think he did it for the money as the Dutch NT coach hardly gets chump change. Koeman said throughout his coaching career that he would never say no to Barca when te opportunity comes, and it came. He stepped in while Messi wanted to leave, Bartomeu left the club in shambles and with no money to improve te squad. He could get a little respect for that. Not the way he is treated now.

Look, I?m not saying Koeman should stay. This is just not the kind of behavior you want associated with a rich historical club like Barca. Especially after last year, especially after hoeing your club out to the super league. Plus the 15-day thing just looks like bad management. What is this, your local pub-team?

What khaled said above.
If this is the way it was (the same way I read it btw) then it's just an answer to a hypothetical question.
Regarding his health, if he knows he went to the hospital, he should say it, no? He shouldn't go into detail about why and so on, and I don't think he did.

But you just think it's terrible in itself that Laporta told Koeman the club is looking for other options straight up? OK

First off, Koeman's health is his own personal business, Laporta or the club should not discuss it in any manner, let alone proactively mentioning it like Laporta did during the press conference.

I am fine with Laporta being honest and telling Koeman that they are looking at other options. But the 15-day thing (if we find somebody in two weeks you are gone, if not you stay) is not productive at all, to say the least.

Koeman?s own agent discussed his medical history with the press, did he not?

I knew about the hospital thing before the press conference as well...

I don't think that's disrespectful. As I didn't watch I don't know the circumstance behind this quote (was he asked about it?), but in any way, he could even bring that up out of the blue without it being bad manner - it is in the socios interest to know if the manager goes to the hospital (and was it an emergency as the papers said and Laporta hinted at or was it to take a standard test as his people say?)

It's very nice of him to let Koeman know the time limit, ie if they don't find someone before then, they will go for him.
The usual way (which is less respectful) is not talking but everybody knowing they are looking and then he can be sacked in august out of the blue.
If Koeman thinks that is bad, and his people leak it, he shouldn't be so surprised that Laporta doesn't go out his way to deny it when it gets brought up afterwards.

Laporta has proven himself to be a poor communicator. Regarding the coaching situation, wonder what they need 15 days for. Sounds like they have no clue what to do next. What Koeman did is well known for a while, they should've already decided on the next step and make contacts.

Yes Laporta mentioned it out of the blue without being asked specifically about it (the journalist only asked about Koeman in the context of his role as a manager, see the press conference video I posted above, between minute 26 and 27).

We will have to agree to disagree on how presidents/board/sporting director should communicate with the manager/coach on the big decision then.

I don't understand Koeman either. He wants to use the contract to milk some money from a financially troubled Barcelona?

He's to blame for this anyway for fucking up the league vs the Granadas and Levates of La Liga.

Everybody is looking crap in this. Also, fuck that piece of shit Bartomeu.

Laporta disrespected today not only a coach, but a Barca legend.
I don't know why some people find it so hard to understand that.
Being 'transparent' is totally a euphemism to describe what Laporta said.
Even if in a private one-one meeting you say that to his face (which would be bold and not polite, to say the least), you NEVER EVER let that come out in a fucking public press conference.
You ruin the image of the club, and if Laporta does not get this it's a huge problem.

Laporta messed up big time

They should've made more concrete contacts under the season without Koeman knowing and sacked him already?
He should be very happy that they communicate their intentions with him, he even asked for it himself. But if he can't take it, he can easily quit.

Season is over and training is off, right? They want it done mid-june and that is not very late.

Ok, maybe I will watch this PC later, but I believe you.
Well it was already common knowledge he was at the hospital, so we'll have to agree to disagree in both cases.

It's disrespectful what Laporta did. His only excuse is he inherited such a crap Barca that it's impossible to not look bad in some ways.

Never seen player/coach dynamic being compared to president/coach dynamic before in football. Never had an idea how much some hated Koeman lol.

well, comparison was there for the taking i guess. koeman telling suarez that he is not needed, but if nothing happens he might stay. laporta telling koeman he is not needed, but if no alternative is found he might stay.

and as in suarez case, most fans want koeman gone. so it's easier no to feel bad about the whole thing.

nobody rioted over suarez being dumped. nobody will riot if koeman gets dumped.

It's obvious that Koeman wants to stay. He thinks he did a goo job in his 1st year and wants to continue.

The problem is on the other end.
It's clear that Laporta would have like another coach, but he cannot find the ones he would rather have.
He is torn between keeping Koeman who is not his choice, or sacking him and making a bet with someone he does not want to make either.

Paying compensation is not the issue.
If that was the case, it would have been resolved already either way (Koeman getting sacked and demanding compensation, or Laporta announcing he will continue).
It's that Laporta cannot get the coaches he wants and is torn about what to do.

To make it even more ridiculous, I think he is waiting for the CL final, and his godamn call to Pep on Sunday, hoping to catch him on the right moment to change him mind and come back now.
Which, of course, is like 0% happening this summer.

In any case, Laporta ridiculed the club with how he handled the situation today
