The manager says that "we have to forget about this match and focus on future objectives," he adds that "we have very important challenges ahead and we'll fight until the end"

"In general Madrid were much more effective than us," says Roura

Jordi Roura knows his players will give their all to win the remaining two competitions available to Barça this season, the league and the Champions League. “I have nothing to reproach the players about tonight. I’m convinced that we will climb out of this dip in form. I think we need to have absolute confidence in this team.” He added that his men need to move forward after tonight’s elimination in the Cup and focus on this Saturday’s Clásico: “It’s sad when you’re eliminated. But these players are extremely competitive and they want to win it all. We have to bounce back and find the joy in the game.”

“We have important challenges ahead”

Roura reminded the journalists in the press room that Barça are still in contention for both the league and the Champions League: “We have to forget about this match and focus on future objectives.” He added that “what we have to try to do is not let our guard down in the Liga and win it as soon as possible. We have an important match against Milan coming up and we’ll approach it with high expectations. I think these challenges are important and we’ll fight until the end for both titles.”

“Madrid were more effective”

On tonight’s match against Madrid, Roura recognised that “we knew what type of match we were going to play. I think they were extremely effective and we didn’t control their counters, which is their strength.” He added that “it’s true that in isolated plays they were very effective, it’s something that we simply weren’t in both the return and away games. In general they were much more effective than us.”

When asked about the return leg in the Champions League against Milan, the manager said that it will be a different match. “Madrid play differently. I think Milan will be more conservative.” He added: “It’s very probable that against Milan we’ll make various tactical changes. When we lose it’s normal to see what changes can be made.”

Thankful to the fans

Roura also wanted to thank the Camp Nou faithful for cheering the team on throughout the whole match: “I want to highlight the fans’ reaction and thank them. They were exemplary. We know how difficult it is to play against Madrid, and the people know it too.”

Cesc: "We have to learn from this and move forward"

Cesc Fàbregas says "the two most important titles are coming up and we have to move forward"
The Barça midfielder goes on to say that "this won't affect us ahead of the match against Milan"

It’s time to pick up the pieces, recover, rectify and bounce back after this evening’s blow against Real Madrid. This is exactly what Cesc Fàbregas said after the match, who refused to give any excuses for this evening’s defeat. “We have to give more, we have to pick ourselves up, move forward and win on Saturday.”

He went on to say that this in Wednesday’s game, Madrid “hurt us on the counter and that’s their specialty; the 0-2 crippled us.

“We have to learn from this ... the two most important titles are coming up and we have to move forward,” he declared. He added that tonight’s match against Madrid “has nothing to do with the one against Milan, they are two different competitions. I believe in this team.”

Cesc was honest about how he was feeling after the match: “We’re a bit down but starting tomorrow we have to start working hard because we represent a very important institution.” Lastly, he thanked the fans for supporting the team throughout the whole match: “I’m very thankful to the fans, they never stopped cheering us on.”

Here are the statements made by other FC Barcelona players after the match:

Jordi Alba:

“We’re upset, we wanted to make it to the final but the penalty and the 0-2 really hurt us. We fought but it wasn’t meant to be, this defeat will make us stronger ahead of the Champions League.”

“We started off well, we created chances but on one typical Madrid counter they won a penalty, and that hurt us.”

“We’ve lost two crucial matches but we still have the return leg against Milan and I’m sure we will do better. If we score early, we’ll have a great chance to make it through to the next round.”

“The team showed that it can win any tie.”

“I want to thank the fans for their support.”

Sergio Busquets:

“I think we were playing relatively well and the result is a bit excessive, the way they scored the first two goals really hurt us.”

“We’re not doing well at the moment, we’re going to fight for the Champions League, which will be difficult but not impossible, and for the Liga.”

“Time cures all wrongs, in four days we have another league match and we have to try to win this important title.”

Dani Alves:

“We didn’t compete well, we traded blows and that’s not our style, we need to learn from this.”

“There’s no room for error if you don’t compete well at this level. They are fast up front and they closed themselves off well at the back.”

“The people know that we tried and they acknowledged our effort, but sadly at this level you can’t give away chances.”

Good game from Real and I hope this taught all the players a lesson on slacking off and not staying 100% the entire time.

Stop this self encouragement thingy and for once admit that we have problem and fix it please, it's getting excessive. The result is not excessive at all, with this mentality we totally deserved this smacking. We cant let all this hype about undefeated 1st half, best goal scoring record etc etc gets to our head. Conceding for a straight 12 matches is not good.

Making tactical changes is admitting a problem. We'll have to see how significant and how real those tactical changes are though.

We don't need to forget this match but learn from it as Madrid will try the same tactics. They clearly see it working so they don't need to change it.

Wow! There is alot of fucking denial from management. They are a clueless bunch who are still riding on past glories. We need a kick up the ass. Hopefully we lose to Milan so we can have some real change.

Instead of learning from the mistakes we did, they want to forget the matches !! God help us ! Tito/Roura reminds me of Pekerman of 2006, his stubbornness cost Argentina the WC.

Madrid have been playing this way for the past 8-9 clasicos and we haven't done anything about it. What makes you think anything will change?

Maybe if we get a manager from outside in the summer....

I know we'll overcome the dip in form, Jordi. It will coincidentally happen the second you leave the seat. Maybe for a manager who won't try the exact same formation that just failed against Milan against Madrid? Just a thought.

Roura talks too much. Why he had to talk about referees before match, Mourinho owned him completely with his commentaries on press conference and gave him a proper tactical lesson last night. Roura doesn't look like a leader at all, it was a mistake to let him handle things.

Didn't Chelsea make a comeback after going 3-1 down in the first leg and later win the CL by getting a new coach? Of course, part of that was because Barca and Bayern beat themselves with bad finishing, but you get my drift...

We should get someone to step in while Tito's gone IMO. And a better assistant manager next season, in case Tito needs to be replaced again.
