+1 Although I don't see why it's necessary to move Messi to the wing as long as we attack with a purpose. Putting Villa and Tello (maybe Pedro) on the wings seriously could work although there is one change they have to make to the system. We need the wingers to seriously attack and try to get in goalscoring positions rather than play passively and without a purpose. The team needs to remember that it's a 3 man attack not a 1 man attack with 2 supporting guys who just stand there. Plus if the wingers really try to put themselves in scoring positions and bring real trouble for the opposition, the defenders will naturally be drawn towards them to be safe rather than just crowd out Messi.
I agree. If our forwards had more attacking initiative, and Xavi/Iniesta/Cesc were looking out for them, our forwards could be making cutting runs behind defenders for lobs and through balls all season. But instead much of the time they stay pointless wide and just play more tiki taka passing back to the midfielders.
I think we should use Villa and Tello as our primary attackers, sorry Pedro and Alexis, they both have potential but they hold themselves back. Villa and Tello should be instructed to use their skill, pace and finishing to focus on beating defenders, making threatening runs and slotting away goals.
The whole useless work rate thing that Pedro and Alexis do does absolutely nothing and now I hope people who relentlessly defended this work rate see how badly this uselessness hurts us. If our 2 other forwards besides Messi cannot score 1 goal between them in 16+ games, they are useless and are hurting us more than helping in the long run.
+1. I don't see the need to move Messi to RW, we just need to put goal threats on the wings (Villa and maybe Tello) IMO.
I would not say it is NECESSARY to move Messi to RW, but it does provide a very strong alternative to help us get more creative and potent up front. For one, it FORCES us to have another natural striker aiming at goal along with Messi (whoever plays CF/false 9). If we have Villa as striker, Messi on RW and Tello on LW, then we have 3 strong goal threats and Messi is not crowded out in midfield.
We could also play Villa on the LW, Cesc at false 9 and Messi on the RW. Therefore both Messi and Villa would be making hella runs and Cesc could be hitting them with lobs and assists. Also, Cesc himself also makes great runs and finishes well, so when Messi is deeper he can hit Cesc with one of his beautiful assists as well.
We need to try to maximize creativity up front in as many ways of possible, rather than stick with the same 2 line ups that are falling short. So Messi @ RW, though not needed, provides much variation and possibility.
