Guess Piqué missed the memo then...


Umtiti has been outperforming Piqué and all other CBs at Barça for months. And was one of our bright spots last season.

No it isnt.

In a team that plays a high line and attacking full backs can some of the toughest situations to defend.

Look at teams like Arsenal or Liverpool who dominate ball but have shit defence and get killed for it.

In a lot of ways it is easier to be a defender at likes of Atletico where they give up more posession and you just have to defend the box. As opposed to at Barca you are expected to play your way out, deal with being isolated with attacking players and dragged into wide positions.

6 months ago when I joined this forum I said he was set to become the successor of Puyol in our defence. He improved a lot for this period of time - no fear, full of confidence (at moments unnecessary) and reads the game well. I'm really excited about his development in the coming years.
