Samuel Umtiti

You guys underestimate how difficult it would be to replace him. Would cost us a fortune. Look at how much Liverpool paid for a vastly inferior CB. It's a damn miracle that we managed to get him for only 25m.

But he's staying so that won't be a problem. Fortunately for us him leaving would be as bad for him as it would be for us. He'll get a well deserved pay raise and his buyout will be bumped up and that'll be that.

I see half this forum has already joined Barcaman's anti-Umtiti agenda though.

The way this forum treats some of our players is insane. Ter Stegen was sunday league tier because he "freezes" or whatever according to this forum, Dembele is already a flop even though he's done just fine in the limited game time he's had (after a great game against Chelesa, this forum was bashing him for not playing like a fucking RB ), etc. And now Umtiti is a mercenary traitor because Sport said he is, even though we've all seen this Man Utd negotiation tactic hundreds of times before. And guess who is/was spearheading every single one of these agendas.

He isn't better than Piqué or Ramos. And Upamecano would be a damn terror with a great CB alongside him.

I would like to keep Umtiti but this isn't black or white. Good player but can get replaced if he wants too much money.

this season hes been better than Pique and lol Ramos really?

He is indeed earning very low for his capabilities. He should get a pay rise as simple as that. No point complicating something that is working perfectly.

Is he the best CB in the world though?

That seems just to have been decided as if a fact.

If he is then defending is at a fucking low.

Good player and great penalty box defender but fuck me 'best in world' and 'potential all time great' are too quick to give him based on performances week in week out in my opinion.

Don't think he is the best but if he is then level of center backs dropped significantly in last 5-10 years.

He was amazing before his injury and probably one of the top 3 CB's in the world. After the injury his level dropped.

Sam is a great defender, before his injury one of the best in the world at that time. So i hope we can keep him.

But it's not like there aren't players that could play on his level, Upamecano and De Ligt are great talents too and once they adapted to barca they could get the label "best of the world too". Although i would like Upamecano more as a Info to replacement.

The biggest factor is that Sam already knows how to play for Barca and has proven himself on that level, other young defenders would still have to make that step.

So i don't think it would be the end of the world, but i still hope it's just tactic to get the best contract (and that doesn't automatically mean 3rd best payed player). Would rather not have to deal with this and spend the money/time on 1-2 really good additions instead of hunting defenders again like we did for years, they would probably try to go for Marquinhos again lol

His performance against Chelsea was better than any performance Pique has had in his career. SMH @ Pique being a better defender than him.

There's no defender in the world better than him aerially, at tackling and or with the ball at his feet. He's playing at a level that only Thiago Silva was at during his reign in AC Milan.

I don't understand him. This year, he will probably win at least a domestic double with Barca, cement himself as one of the best CB's in the world and have 3 of his very close friends playing next to him soon.
I hope this is just a negotiation tactics, otherwise he is just another mercenary.

And yea, the guy who put 60 million release clause in his contract should be shot.

its how it works in todays football, players doesnt care much about club with better history if oil club offers them better salary, okay here we talk about man. united, but you get my point, if umtiti wants to go for better salary, we cant blame him, to bad barca will lose best CB since puyol

interesting thing about umtiti is also that since his first match, he had great displays, there was no "adaption" period for him, true WC

I hate international breaks and mostly pointless debates like these on the last few pages that almost always emerges when Barça is not playing and mediots have to write some BS articles to get their clicks/sell papers.

Also, it doesn't take a lot for people to turn their backs to one of our best and most consistent players.

If he's really demanding what is reported and club in the end won't want to give him that I will understand and support their decision but as long as we have no further proof of that I'll just take everything as negotiations tactics from Umtiti's side. At the end they'll probably find themselves somewhere in the middle between Barca's offer and Umtiti's demands like it usually happens as long as both sides have interest to reach the deal which I believe is the case here. If Umtiti would really want to leave he'd already do that, maybe even in January to City (before they bought Laporte; Umtiti would be a bit cheaper but much more proven and better option) where he could get similar wages than what United is reportedly offering him while playing in a better system.
