Samuel Umtiti

TBH I wouldn't mind loan swap deals Umtiti-Darwin Nunez (with a buy option).

I know Darwin had a poor first season in Benfica but I think he wasn't a fit for Joge Jesus's 4-4-2 and also had corona and knee injury bothering him. He underwent surgery in May but think he should be back relatively soon.

The 10ME "offer" from Benefica was hilarious... why would anyone pay anything? You can easily get him for free (with Barcelona paying a percentage of his wages). Shit journalism.

He'll be leaving for free in 2023, lets face it.

I can think of him leaving next year with one of 3 options:
A-We buy him out.
B-He can get an offer elsewhere, we pay most of the salary difference in his 22/23 season. We get to save some money, he get to sign long term deal.
C-He will be forced on a loan.

Is there a legal way he can be forced to train individually forever and not with the team?
On the top, of course, of not entering any game squad as long as he does not agree to a move.

The short answer is no.
The poor (not from a lawyer) less short answer is that there is a leeway but very difficult. If you can prove that the player intentionally hurting the club and its prospect of growing and that he had offers to be paid same or better elsewhere but refusing, then you can sue him for damage and try to fire him. But even then there are counter arguments that he is disciplined and healthy who has family settled here etc
But laws in Spain are protecting the labor really well. Admirable tbh but hurts the clubs

But is there any obligation on the part of the club other than his wage?
If Koeman orders him to train individually and never calls him up for any games, does he have any legal ground to challenge that?

I remember there being a FIFA rule for that, but i think it meant the player can just leave for free...what is exactly what we'd like anyway

Other than that it could be argued that if a player is seperated like that he isn't really allowed to do his work (if team training is seen as essential for a footballer) so there might be some work regulations coming into play.

Club can't ban him from training.

Plus, I think it's beneficial for the team to have Umtiti in training for the most part. For example in training games, especially with Lenglet out.
He's like a third goalkeeper. Might as well make use of him for the benefit of the rest of the players.

Yes for making him train individually, no for not using him in games.

All players under contracts have right to train with the team unless there are some serious disciplinary issues like missing out on trainings, doping etc. (these things are all mentioned in players individual contracts and also in club's internal codecs that all players are aware off) but Barca needs to have evidence for that if a player would file a complaint with AFE (Association of Spanish Footballers). What we can't do is discipline a player for being on high wages (not his fault) or not wanting to leave (Umtiti)/ not wanting to renew (Ilaix) by not allowing him to train with the team.

So the only thing club can do is not play him. This is club's/coaches decision. Nobody from the outside could prove that he's not playing as a punishment rather than him just not being good enough or not fit into Koeman's plans as good as other players at his position.

But if he cares more about money than actually still getting something out of his career (which is probably true at this point) then Umtiti will just happily accept being on the sidelines collecting his pay checks for next year or two.

True, we need something more drastic than letting him be on the stands.
