Ballsy move, but we were getting the short end of the stick with that straight swap deal + strengthening a direct rival by a lot.

Atletico fucked up. They should have done the 15m+ Saul combo. Still a good deal for them. And very much according to the transfer value of these players. We would've ended up with Saul + 30m give or take considering Saul's salary would have been lower than Griezmann's by a good margin.

That's pretty fair. If Saul is worth 40, Griezmann is 70. Or in a more normal market, Saul is 30, Griezy is 55 or so.

They wanted us to pay some of Griezmann's salary :lol: So very happy the deal is off for now. Could not believe that we were going to strengthen a rival and yet end up with a loss.

Better just loan Griezmann for a year with obligation to buy next summer or in 2 years. This way we erase his salary from our books and be sure to collect some cash in the end. Also, might help interested clubs to get him.

Some talk about Liverpool possibly offering a Henderson - Saul swap as their contract extension talks with him aren't progressing.

Well at the end of the day they can still sell Saul while we may end up being stuck with Griezmanns ridiculous salary so no suprise they didn't offer us a good deal.

Other than Chelsea's 3-4-3 requires specific positional and passing work from the 2 CMs that Saul can provide
nothing like the physical md that Barca is looking for
