Sergi Roberto

This guy cannot and will not be benched since he's the 5th highest player at the club. He will keep starting as long as he's on his 10m/yr to make it look like he's worth the investment.

As usual a freeway down our right side. Roberto always seem to struggling with his positioning. And please don’t go on and on about how he doesn’t get any help etc

Messi, Suarez, Coutinho, Dembele, Busquets, Pique, Rakitic have all bigger wages than Sergi. Alba, Mats and Paulinho have the same as him. Don't know how much Iniesta has, but is surely more than Sergi. Umtiti if he signs will also get more than him, that will make it 12 players with higher or equal wages to Sergi.

Umtiti wants 9m a year.

Roberto is on 10m a year which is about 190k a week.

Ideally, Sergi will never start a season in the first 11. He will enter the first 11 at one of 5 positions, when a starter goes down. Super utility, very valuable player, he'll always be pretty high up on the team list for minutes played. But, the squad must be strengthened so that there are players who deserve to start ahead of him at these 5 positions.

Roberto had some decent leverage in order to get those new wages he's on and one of the biggest reasons is because he's from La Masia.

Club and Board was obviously under some pressure to have a home grown kid come up and nail a spot down in the first team as we lost Thiago back in 2013 and the likes of Tello,Cuenca,Bartra,Montoya etc didn't work out in the end.

Roberto knew this and decided to use that to his advantage in negotiations, He had a low clause and a contract that expired in 2019 with several teams wanting him including Chelsea. This isn't any negative mark from me to be fair as most players would have done the same thing.

Now he has a Big release clause and much better wages he doesn't have to worry about his future regardless how poorly/well he performs.

If you don't trust Semedo then sign Odriozola.

Just get Roberto away from the RB position. We need an actual RB that got defending instincts and got pace.

Same happened last season. Had some good games vs average teams + one or two runs vs Real Madrid so everyone forgot how bad he can be, and I cannot even blame him as he's not a RB or a good fit for the role either.
