Maybe I watched Busi too much and when Xavi and similar players were Cdms, but for my taste, he plays too many long balls all the time.
Busi plays those nice 1-2s and short, simple passes all the time.
Samper has 5+ long balls in 45 minutes whenever he plays.
For example, we have a 4men defense, he is alone infront of them, he gets a ball, he can play a simple, fast short pass to either flank, to either Cb or to a closest Cm, but he tries a long ball to the opposite flank (fullback), and then that ball travels for like 5-6 seconds, plus a fullback is having some troubles to receive a pass, and then a fullback is already surrounded with opponents and all he can is to return the ball back to Cbs and they give a ball back to Samper.
So, basically, we lose 20-30 for nothing.
Samper gets the ball, he makes a strange long ball attempt pass, his teammates get into an uncomfortable position, and return the ball to him.
Then he finally plays a simple short pass to a teammate.
A point: he could have done that 30 seconds ago already.
Not all his passes are long balls, and not all his long balls are bad.
But at least I am annoyed by too many of those attempts.
It happened a lot of times in the past, and again yesterday: for example, our team is passing well and fast (on the ground) and we making nice, fast, classical Barca Dna actions.
When you have Busi, he fits perfectly in that smart-passing style.
And then you have Samper, who after 20-30 nice, fast, shortpasses gets the ball: and bang, he tries some strange long ball to a full back, and my impression, totally ruins the flow and build up.
I have a feeling sometimes that we have 10 players and Samper on a field.
This is how much his style (movement, build up, passes) is sometimes different from what other guys do.
Some will say that he plays like Pirlo. Well, fine. But I personally wouldn't want even the original Pirlo here because he doesn't fit our style.
Maybe someone will tell him to play more like Barca's-Dna-passing style.
Also, defensively, I have a same problem with Samper as a Cdm like with Rafinha as a Cm.
When they are on the field, I have a feeling that something is "missing" in that area of our team, as if they are always slightly off their position (Rafinha is always slightly too close to an opponent's box for our Cm) and Samper is, well, always a few meters left-right-up or down on a wrong position. And as if we have a giant hole on their part of a field (Rafinha when Rcm and Samper when Cdm. They just don't cover their area well in a positional way like Rakitic or Busi, for example)
I don't know how to explain it better, he is just positioned in a strange way.
Roberto as a Cdm currently looks like the best Cdm in a universe compared to Samper.
And Roberto is far from an awesome Cdm...
Samper really needs to go on a loan and improve his game a lot.
